e ICHTHU8 1974 LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE LANCASTER. PENNSYLVANIA To the graduates of 1974: You are among those who will be the first to graduate from Lancaster Bible College. Our institution is more than forty years old but this is our first year with a NEW name. There is always something exciting in being a part of something that is NEW. Our life as believers in Christ began with a NEW birth by which we received NEW life and became NEW cre¬ atures in Christ Jesus. God’s mercies and compassions are NEW every morning and He has put a NEW song in our mouths, even praise unto our God. All of these NEW things are possible because we belong to and serve a Lord who has said, Behold I make all things NEW” (Revelation 21:5). While this refers to His future activity, it is also true that God can and does bring a newness and freshness to our lives every day. This is the God of whom you have been learning in your days of preparation here at LBC. May you come to know our God in an increasingly NEW and vital way in the days of service that lie before you. The most precious privilege in time and in eternity is to know Him who makes all things NEW. Rejoicing in the newness of His life, 2 1 amm 3 OUR DEDICATEE As a person — warm, friendly, cheer¬ ful, buoyant, sensitive, resourceful, sociable and well-balanced; As a professor — firm, effective, understanding, stable, enjoyable and well-liked; As a professional — gifted, competent, talented, distinguished and well- accepted. A smile that reflects the loving heart of our creator; hands that are used to direct others in declaring the greatness of our God; a voice that is used to pro¬ claim the good news about our Christ; a man of vigor, a man of humor, but also, a man of God; . . . These all express the various fac¬ ets of this well-rounded person to whom the class of 1974 dedicates this yearbook — WARREN W. Life at Lancaster provides a well-inte¬ grated environment for each student. Traveling through each day affords opportunity for classes, studies, social life, work and relaxation. 21 J For There Were Many Coming And Going. . . (Mark 6:31) The freshmen arrive with a look of wonder and anticipation upon the faces of all. There is plenty of paperwork to do at registration and this is just the beginning . . . It’s back to the old grind for the upperclassmen. Isn’t it amazing how registration never seems to get any easier? Family Affair is a time for all stu¬ dents to get together and find out a little bit about each other. Some of the future students just couldn’t seem to take all the excitement. 24 Life affords us many opportunities. Here at LBC it affords us the chance not only to partake of physical food but also of the Spiritual Food. At the corn roast we ate to our hearts content of the physical food that was put before us. Dur¬ ing our Spiritual Life Conference Dr. Wright broke to us the Spiritual Food of the Scriptures. Each of these foods is a vital part of our life at Lancaster Bible College. 26 From the groundbreaking of the new Student Union to the building of the bleachers . . . From the professional to the not so professional . . . The crowd using it tests how good the nonprofessionals really are. Of course, there always has to be one boss in the crowd. A year to remember — we are number ONE! The Chargers, under the leader¬ ship of Coach Figart, kicked their way to the Eastern Pennsylvania Christian Conference championship. Congratula¬ tions ! You’re G r r r e a t!! Ut i 31 mmm Front row: Robin Beveridge, Dennis Williams, Paul Lewandowski, Kenneth Dotterman, Dean Mellen, Thomas Davis, Kenneth Ross, Daniel Pinkham, Harold Fried, and Robert Heijermans. Back row: Coach Thomas O. Figart, Jr., Timothy Robinson, Jerry Davis, Edward Mooney, Charles Hodges, Ellis Yunkin, David Gable, Mark Moyer, Larry Toner, and Manager, Steve Riggs. M Left to right: kneeling: Barbara Busse, Nikoletta Pappas, Teresa Weaver, Susan Hodel, Nancy Vogel, Susan Leach. Standing: Karen Walter, Linda Turner, Myma Adkins, Gaye-Lynn Kline, Darlene Rice, Laurie Warburton, Jo Ellen Zumbrun, Darlene Rimer, Colleen Osborn. 34 The girls hockey team had an exceptional season this year. There was a mixture of new and returning players, yet an all-new spirit, enthusi¬ asm, and love for one another. The Student Internship Workshop and Stu¬ dent Leadership Seminar are learning experi¬ ences for all. They train us to go out into the world and tell others of the knowledge we have obtained while here on campus. Here we are training to be the leaders of tomorrow. 37 . Mifc-Voi- . . . the golf tournament, welcoming time, alumni breakfast, and the AL UMNUS OF THE YEAR award, all augment and add to the memories being accumulated by the members of the LBC family . . . Cornerstone Laying Dean Donald A. Urey, discussing the meaning of the inscription on the cornerstone, stated that in Psalm 23, David recounts God’s faithfulness. All that the shepherd is to his flock, God is to His peo¬ ple. As a person, God the Shepherd is STRONG (able to do all that is necessary for His flock) and GENTLE (able to tenderly care for those who are His). As a provider, God the Shepherd RULES over His flock, FEEDS His own, COMES to the aid of His lambs and gently LEADS the sheep (Isaiah 40:10, 11). Jesus Christ is our Good Shepherd (John 10:11) and, in a very real sense, the Student Union is a Shepherd’s building because the building and the individuals who will use and labor in it will, in many ways, provide similar ministries for the stu¬ dent body of LBC. The smiles and laughter, a bouquet of roses, and a kiss from President Lease all add to the grandeur and excitement of this day of HOMECOMING. Study Life . . . thought, exercitation, reflection, cogitation, con¬ sideration, meditation, speculation, deliberation, brain work, reflection, contemplation, pondering, musing, learning, reading, perusal, cram, memorize, consume the midnight oil, study, study, study!!! That’s what aca¬ demics is all about. The where, how, or when may vary with the individual, but we can never overlook this important aspect of college life. Friend ' s Fellowship Banquet AJ Larson, General Director of Une¬ vangelized Fields Mission and guest speaker, contributed greatly to the fel¬ lowship during this time to remem¬ ber.” 1,1 Khimii Hi ' «M ■ ■ A Artist Series Norman and Leonore Curtis, baritone and soprano duo, added sparkle to the student culture.” . . . remember the Hely-Hutchinson Air” (Old Mother Hubbard)? 55 Second Semester Left to right: 1st row: Kathleen Resh, Patricia Wickline, Gail Wyse, Dianne Hager. 2nd row: Sally Jenkins, Ruth Huber, Cynthia Thompson, Sandra Cramer, Deborah Hubler. 3rd row: Philip Lenko, Martin Wahl, Dennis Kennedy, Stephen Bretz, Frank Kleder, Ellsworth Jenkins. The registration which opened second semester was not quite as hectic as that of the first semes¬ ter although it had its unsettling, feverish moments. There were the usual reunions” among the returning students and a reception for the new students when they met all the faculty members. Dr. Donald Hubbard, the midyear conference speaker, with his emphasis on practical Christian living, contributed greatly to the success of the spring semester. Because of his warm personal¬ ity, he touched our hearts and lives in many spe¬ cial ways. 59 A new team, a new coach (Thomas O. Figart, Jr.), and a new enthusiasm were the characteris¬ tics of our Basketball Chargers this year. They kindled a new spark of eagerness that we trust will continue to glow in the hearts of LBC ath¬ letes. Left to right: first row: Myrna Adkins, Barbara Busse, Sandra Larrisey, Brenda Robinson, Nancy Vogel. Second row: Brenda Gardner, Jo Ellen Zumbrun, Sheryn Gingrich, Gaye-Lynn Kline, Stephanie Schaeffer, Linda Turner. One thing that can be said about our girls basketball team is, Total victory in spirit!” The team, under the leadership of Mrs. Doris Reid, coach, displayed vivacity, vitality, and vigor as they were joined in their efforts to display a fervent unity of purpose and to glorify Christ through every action. 62 The Single Collegiate Hope Of a Learner is to Accomplish Reasonable Scholarship. At LBC, this can be realized only with constant, resolute, faithful study on the pan of both the professors and the scholars. 65 thar ’s a out ther e 66 Missionary Conference The Annual Missionary Conference provides a unique harmony of activity. During the week, Mr. George Led- den, U.S. Director of the Far Eastern Gospel Crusade, affirmed that THERE’S A WORLD OUT THERE; facts about mission opportunities were presented in WORLD PERSPECTIVE SEMINARS; exhibits and curios from missionaries and missions were displayed for student perusal; and informal times of conversation and exercise were exchanged between students and mis¬ sionaries. A word of appreciation goes to the Student Missionary Fellowship and its Vice President, Robin Harchak, because they planned and successfully carried out the particulars of this very profitable week. 67 Choir Tour 73 The CONESTOGANS ministered in song and testi¬ mony in the churches of Northeastern United States and also had the privilege of seeing some of God’s and man’s handiwork as they traveled in this area of our beautiful country. 1973 Semi- Formal This encounter with a different yet enjoyable phase of the Christian cul¬ ture helps to develop the individual’s social poise. Candlelight, fancy clothes, entertainment, flowers, decorations, and dates,” all help to create an atmosphere of refinement and romance. NT . Another year ... A concert featuring the captivating soprano voice of Joe Ann Shelton and the mastery of her piano accompanist, Loeen Bushman . . . The year¬ book dedication . . . Fun-filled escapades and capers at the all-school picnic . . . And the highlight of the momentous year — commencement, an ending and a beginning. 73 Dorm Life Living together . . . Working together . . . Laughing together. Together” is a key word for our lives here at LBC. A very special part of our family at LBC is the commuters. This group includes married men and women (some with children) and bachelors from the Weaver home, and each one is a necessary and important part of the total school family. Social Life Our lives have grown together this year. For some of us, our lives have been touched in a very special way. We have grown outside of our¬ selves to love, to care, and to sacri¬ fice; and all of us together have grown in Him. : — %w mm us. - i kc t a mm 1 k • y-4 . .a Itev.- 4 ■ 9 I The LBC Family 80 81 Board Of Trustees And Administration DR. Figart, a professor of twelve years at our college, is the first of our faculty to write and publish a book. Probing into an age-old question, Dr. Figart presents scholarly insights as he analyzes the Biblical view of the race problem. Much time and study has been devoted to such pertinent topics as the ori gin of the races, racial problems in the Old and New Testaments, and the divine perspect ive on the races as relating to the Christian’s attitude toward racial segrega-j tion and intermarriage. While many learned men of God have shunned away from this touchy subject, Dr. Figart has delved deeply into it and, as a result, has i given us explicit answers based upon the 1 inerrant Word of God. Therefore to you Dr. Figart, we express our appreciation, pride and love as our author, professor, counselor, and friend. THANK YOU, Dr. Figart.
