BOX 247 To the Senior Class, It seems that each year in every generation presents a crisis of some kind or other. This, your year of graduation is no exception for in it there is revealed an urgent and increas¬ ing crisis in Christian work all over the world. With the uprising of the spirit of nationalism, the subtle yet sac rificial drive of Commu¬ nism, the sudden aggressiveness of opposing religions, together with the inconsistent lives of modernistic missionaries, one can readily see that we are in an urgent hour insofar as foreign missions are concerned. Nor is this spiritual crisis limited to foreign fields. Into the Christian ' s practice at home, has crept a materialistic philosophy. Affections appear to oe set on earthly rather than on heavenly things. This is evidenced by the lack of vision and funds to finance the work at home, to say nothing of the responsibility to the uttermost parts of the world. Lack of financial security is causingfewer young people to give themselves to the hard places in our own land not to mention the regions beyond. Add to this, the growing indifference to the genuine Gospel and the popularity of liberal Christianity and we can see that we, too, in this country face a serious spiritual crisis. Considering all this, one gets the sensation of a great tide about to oreak loose especially in the spiritual realm. Could it be that this is the climaxing of that great prelude to the coming of our Lord? And yet do not these very difficulties constitute our greatest challenge? Men and women of the Class of ' 55, I would remind you that you are among the called out of the called out ones. God has called you apart to prepare and train for Himself. I charge each one of you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ MAKE YOUR LIVES COUNT FOR HIM! If missionary work has been difficult heretofore, it will be increasingly difficult in the days ahead. I think of the evils of so-called civilization; the fanaticism of opposing religions; the nationals ' misassociation of the missionary with the white man ' s colonialism, and possible imprisonment resulting from invasion, revolutions, or civil wars. These, in addition to Satanic paganism and the constant battle of disease, do not picture an easy task. But with all.this seeming impossibility, is the assured presence of Omnipotence Who shall go with you and triumph through you unto all the ends of the earth. May the failure of the people of the world to meet their spiritual crisis riot De caused by our failure to deliver the remedy but rather oy their reaction to the remedy. I pray that our Lord shall find in each of you a vessel that is willing to be a drink offering (Philippians 2:17) to be poured out at His feet. Be willing to spend and be spent for the Cause of Christ, and He shall make you fruitful for His own glory. 11 Corinthians 4:15 President
