ai I PN COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105. ARMSTRONG AND McCreary and Goodyear Tires - Precision Recapping Since 1940 The Book of books. EVANGELISTIC PREACHING and the 0U Testament OOP (OHfl ' Published by the Senior Class Lancaster School of the Bible and School of Theology Lancaster, Pennsylvania L Foreword The Christian is described in various ways by the Word of God. Sometimes he is presented as a soldier, an athlete, husbandman or sojourner and pilgrim. For our theme for this yearbook we have decided to use the simile of a sojourner and pilgrim. We Christians are just traveling through this world; it is notour home. Our citizenship is in heaven. As sojourners and pilgrims traveling in the narrow way which leads to eternal life, we have passed through the valley of sacrifice, the mountaintop of victory, the tempestuous storm and through the still waters. Many and varied have been our experiences. Now as you browse through the pages of this year¬ book, you will see that phase of our journey which was spent at the Lancaster School of the Bible and School of Theology. HOLTON 445| South Prince Street - Lancaster, Penna. Phone 3-2226 Jn ' Dedication To Mr. Paul C. Wilt, we heartily dedicate the 1954 Ichthus as a means of expressing our deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks for all that his life has meant to us. In his life, we have noticed a sincere desire and an intense concern for the spiritual growth of each individual student. We think of the many times he has exhorted us to walk close to the Lord and to abstain from fleshlv lusts which war against the soul. We certainly have appreciated his earnest desire to help us grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a teacher, he has always made his classes very interesting and profitable. Through hjs ministry we have learned to know our Lord better and to understand His Word more fully. As acting President of the School while we were waiting upon the Lord for a President, we will always remember how faith¬ fully and patiently he bore the many burdens, duties and respon¬ sibilities placed upon his shoulders at that time. Above all, as a fellow sojourner and pilgrim whose citizen¬ ship is in heaven, he has given us a clear example showing us how to walk worthily of the calling wherewith we were called. c e ha PPy family. Be assured of our continued remembrance of you all before the throne of grace inasmuch as we have you always in our heart. As a class you have chosen to be numbered among those who “declare plainly” they seek the fullest pos¬ sible exercise of their heavenly citizenship so long as they are strangers and pilgrims here on earth. This is a noble purpose - -to convert all living into a grand Christian Manifesto of faith, hope, and love. For this cause our prayer to God in your behalf is that He would give unto you an insatiable desire for spiritual things; that your capacity for God’s blessing may be equal to your opportunities for ser¬ vice; and that more and more your love for Christ might express itself as undeviating confidence and courage in the midst of this crooked and perverse generation. Your friend in Christ, Stuart P. Garver, Acting President Dear Graduates: “Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pil¬ grims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.” I Peter 2:11. The Bible depicts believers as pilgrims and strangers in this world. We do not have a permanent home here; our citizenship is in heaven. This is be¬ cause God wishes us to remember constantly our heavenly calling and to walk as befitting citizens of heaven. You are soon to leave Bible School. You will be stepping out from a sheltered haven to face the wrath of a hostile world. The truth of this passage will be emphasized over and over again in your life. I be¬ seech you to walk humbly before your God in fellow¬ ship with Him. The Christian walk is a fight. We are engaged in a continual warfare, not of blood against blood, but of soul and spirit against spiritual powers of darkness. Fleshly lusts war against our spiritual growth into maturity. If we are to be victorious in this battle we must abstain from fleshly lusts. They sap our spiritual strength and cause us to fall prostrate before the enemy. Beloved I Take your stand. Do not allow anything to distract your attention from Him. Paul C. Wilt Dean Dean ’s M ess age Zhe School Administration The Board of Trustees con¬ sists of ten persons elected by the Corporation to serve for a period of two years. The board meets regularly each month as required by the Constitution. However, many times, because of the urgency of pressing prob¬ lems the board convenes two or three times a month. Meetings continue throughout the sum¬ mer months while the school is in recess. The average meeting lasts about two and one-half hours. All meetings begin with the reading of the Word of God followed by a season of prayer when each trustee asks God for wisdom in making decisions. The blessing of the Lord is also sought for the students, faculty members and the alum¬ ni. After the devotional period the business session begins. The duties of the Board of Trustees are to control and to manage the affairs of the school. Some of the items this would include are: The making of investments; the buying of property; care and maintenance of existing properties; appropriation of money for specific purposes; promotional work and planning of all types; decisions on the number of faculty members needed; their spiritual and academic qualifications; and the rate of remuneration for their services. Major discipline prob¬ lems are also handled by the board. Emory G. Wilt, Ernest P. Reisinger, Martin Esbenshade, Lester M. Weaver, Chairman, James R. Landis, Edward G. BRUBAKER Ever since the day when Moses and Miriam led the children of Israel in singing praises to Jehovah, music has been ultimately linked with Christian worship. Today the field of musical ministry in the church is a challenging one--a field wide open to the person with sound training. Since the Lord deserves the best, we are determined, by God’s grace, to offer the best possible training to our students. We desire that they will go out from us well prepared to meet the de¬ mands of the musical profession, but above all, to be an honor to the Christ they serve. 7 a u ' ? it f l t y CLARKE E. BURKHALTER I was led to accept Christ as my personal Saviour as a result of a statement made to me by my mother when I was near my fourteenth year. A Sunday School teacher in the Intermediate class also had a great influence on my life. 1 received my call to the ministry in the fall of 1938. In 1948, I resigned my church to work among Jews. My aim in teaching is to exalt Christ, and es¬ pecially, to equip those whom God has called for effective witness to Israel. Students, “Make God’s will the aim for your life and leave the consequences to Him.” GRACE E. DOAN “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. From the earliest time song has been an expression of emotion. There have been songs of heartache and sorrow; songs of gaiety and mirth, of work and of play. But for the Christian there are songs of deliverance and joy; joy of salvation and of service. Our aim in teaching the music classes is to equip the students with knowledge which will enable them to serve the Lord in a greater capacity; that they may say with the song writer “There is joy in serving Jesus which never shall depart.” STUART P. GARVER “Be in earnest to set yourself before God is a description of the “good part” for which Christ com¬ mended Mary, the sister of Martha. She “sat also” at His feet “and heard His Word. ” This is much more than occupying a position be¬ fore Him. It is typical of the whole bent of one’s mind as the Holy Spirit opens his understanding of the Scriptures. It is taking heed to one’s DISPOSITION. Will our earnestness TO KNOW His Word carry over into the willingness TO DO what He commands? Such earnestness of purpose alone makes us “workmen that need not to be ashamed.” 10 E. BERYL HAMPTON “He that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30. Because there are thousands of children who have never heard of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ and of the salvation that there is in Him, may it be a challenge to your heart to include boys and girls in your soul winning. How wise it is to win to Christ those who have their entire lives to live for Him! Remember -- two-thirds of America’s children do not go to Sunday School! May the constraining love of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit in your life, result in a fruitful ministry--especially among the children. HAROLD R. LEHMAN In a time when the de-Christianizing of public education is all but complete and the materialistic philosophy of a secular education colors the thinking of all young people who necessarily, although perhaps unwittingly, become its products, what a joy it is to be able to teach every subject from a CHRISTIAN standpoint in a CHRISTIAN school! All classes, even those in the field of music, take on added beauty and significance when taught by a CHRISTIAN teacher in an atmosphere of spiritual discernment. Of a truth learning begins with God and He has given us our Lord Jesus who of God is made unto us WISDOM.... ” J. DAVID HARRISON Our Lord’s command to evangelize the world can never be considered as having been completely obeyed until the world has been completely evangelized. It is obvious that this is the duty of every Church and every individual Christian. That Christians at large are ignoring this command in no way affects the com¬ mand. Rather it exposes the unfaithfulness of the person who ignores it. There are numerous parts to the missionary enterprise--going, sending, helping, praying, giving-- all necessary in obeying the command. Seriously, which is your part? OSCAR M. KRAYBILL It has been a great privilege during the years to be able in a small way to share in the task of helping young people to form those convictions that will enable them to stand true in hard places as they go out into active ministry at home or abroad. We have many times felt like Paul when he said, “Who is sufficient for these things?” But then we have remembered that he also said, “Our sufficiency is of God.” II Corin¬ thians 2:16; 3:5. Our counsel to each student is Titus 2:7, “In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works, in doctrine, uncorruptness, etc!” WILLIAM J. RANDOLPH In studying and ministering I have found two prin¬ ciple lessons to be learned by every student of God’s Word. First of all, he will find that his study will have a more effective application in his ministry if it has first found a personal application in his own life. Secondly, that many snares, heartaches can be spared the servant of God, if his problems and con¬ troversies are approached in the light of God’s OVERALL purpose in the whole body of Christ and that “He worketh all things ... to the end that we should be unto the praise of His glory.” CHARLES F. PFEIFFER During your Bible School days you have not only learned rich truths from God’s Word, but also you have had your mental and spiritual horizons widened in the realization that there is yet much ground to possess. Do not be content to simply repeat those lessons which you have learned, but rather build on the foundation of the truth in which you have been instructed. As you press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” re¬ member the divine injunction: “Prove all things: hold fast that which is good.” HARRY C. MARK It has been my aim in teaching to help the student to think creatively and to stimulate his hunger for a greater und erstanding of God’s marvelous revelation; also to increase his comprehension of the sublimity and sacredness of his calling to the Christian ministry. If there is one bit of advice that I might pass on to the students which is more important than any other it is to develop good study habits and to continue these habits all through life. On the tomb of that great his¬ torian John Richard Green is carved the inscription, He died learning. ” RICHARD D. MOHN Where is the man who never to himself has said, “Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is this all about?” Even the most devoted Christian is tempted with these questions at times. The Psalmist answers these for us in a glorious song of praise and thanksgiving. Yes, you and I are here in this confused, mixed up world to bear testimony unto the Lord. Yours is the most glorious calling a man can have; to be a living testimony for Him and to witness for Him among your fellow man. May God bless you and guide you all the days of your life. PAUL SEBASTIAN God saved me through faith in Christ when I was a lad of 13 years. I gave my life to Him as a senior in high school, and He has been working His good pleas¬ ure in me ever since “freely giving me all things in Christ.” I received a world vision of the lost while I was in India, Burma and China. God led through col¬ lege and Bible School and said to me, “the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” MILDRED WISSLER Psalm 71:23. “My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto THEE, and my soul, which THOU hast redeemed.” As a young person listening to the teaching of really being “BORN AGAIN,” I realized that any talents I had belonged completely to HIM. As we look fully in the face of our SAVIOUR and LORD, surely we must want to impart to others thru our teaching the joy flooding our souls, when having been redeemed, we gave back ourselves and talents to HIM. Colossians 3:16. HOWARD A. WHEATLEY It is my earnest desire that my teaching will have the same effect upon the students as the ministry of the Apostle Paul had on those Thessalonians of whom we read that, “they received the Word with all readi¬ ness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” I want my scholars to be Spirit taught, humble, independent, students of the Word of God, so that when they graduate, they will have a “Thus saith the Lord,” for what they believe and preach. Then I believe they will become useful labourers in God’s great harvest field. PAUL C. WILT My heart is filled with joy because of the salvation of the Lord. He saved me by His grace, keeps me by His power, leads me by Hi..- wisdom, and fills me by His love. I am happy because God has given me the great privilege to teach His Word here at Lancaster School of the Bible. He has entrusted to me the task of train¬ ing lives for His service. I desire above all else that He might fill and use each of you to the praise of His glory. Keep looking up. 13 Subjects Zaugkt Sy Zke faculty VIRGINIA R. CLASS OF 1954-ALUMNI ASSOCIATION “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” MARK 16:15 “I am a sojourner in the earth: Hide not thy commandments from me. Psalms 119:19. Introducing Che Senior Class Betty McGonigle, Secretary; Donald Pierce, President; Jeanette Heydt, Treasurer; Mil¬ lard Bedwell, Vice President. In looking back over the past years at Bible School, we realize we have much for which to thank and praise the Lord. These three years have been a time of rich blessing and fellowship. The Seniors met as a class for the first time in the fall of 1951. We all had the leading of God to study His Word and the desire “To know Christ and to mak e Christ known. Many opportunities of service opened to us. The students ministered in music, teaching and preaching. There were hard times as well as times when everything went just as we wished. Through these hard times we came to realize that Romans 8:28 was true and that these things were used of God to perfect us for His use. As we came into our last year we praised God for past experiences and blessings and looked for¬ ward to this last year as an especially important one. We have tried to learn faithfully and well the lessons which God had for us. As we travel through the pathways of this life we know that only as our lives are centered in Christ, can we be used of Him. Our future is in His hands. We know that as we commit our way unto Him, He will guide and direct us. Praise His Name! Compliments of: JOHN N. SAUDER AUTO COMPANY Chevrolet - Oldsmobile New Holland, Penna. MILLARD BEDWELL DONALD BURKHOLDER “My Lord and my God.” It is really wonderful for me to know Jesus Christ as my Lord and my God. I, like Thomas, have had proof that Jesus is my Lord and my God. Since my salvation by grace through faith in the shed blood of Jesus, I have had the ex¬ perience of joy, peace and satisfaction that I knew nothing about. 1 thank God that He, through His great love, sent His Son Jesus Christ to die, that He might be my Lord and my God. I am thankful that God has called me to Bible School to learn more of His Word in preparation for His service. But the greatest calling God has given to me as a Christian is “to be conformed into the image of His Son.” This seems to be a hopeless task as I look at myself. But when I look “unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,” I know that the “power that worketh in us” is capable even of this. ERMA GOOD I am glad that 1 can say with the Apostle Paul, I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” II Timothy 1:12b. While here at school, the Lord has taken me through many experiences which were all for His glory. The desire of my heart is found in Philippians 3:10, “That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings being m ade conformable unto His death.” EDNA HARRIS I thank the Lord for being born again and having the Lord Jesus as my Saviour. I was converted at sixteen in a Methodist church which I attended from childhood. As time went on I felt a need in my life. Years later I heard the gospel as I had never heard it be¬ fore, and became filled with the Spirit for service to God. Then He led me to Lancaster School of the Bible where His Word has become precious, and my life is surrendered to His service. Psalms 27:1 DAVID HEYDT JEANETTE HEYDT Embedded within the inmost confines of my heart is that peace and joy of Christ which is unexplainable, and which only those of like precious faith can com¬ prehend. When this peace and joy is felt, how can the earnest desire of one’s life help but be that which is expressed in Galatians 2:20. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God. I praise the Lord for the joy of salvation which I have found in Him. Since my complete submission to Him, my personal desires have been taken from me, and He has placed within my heart the desire to do His will. This was accomplished when Galatians 2:20 was applied to my life. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God. ” DANIEL KLIM RICHARD HYATT Isaiah 54: 16,17; (R.V.) “Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the fire of coals, and bringe’th forth a weapon for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness which is of me, saith Jehovah.” After going to Bible School, I find there is much more to learn concerning God and His Word. I realize this is but the beginning, but by God’s grace I want to press on as the Apostle Paul states in Philippians 3:13-14. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press towards the mark f or the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” BETTY McGONIGLE HERMAN MEYER “In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:6. I do thank and praise the Lord for my salvation. I also thank and praise Him for leading me to this school where I have received so many rich spiritual lessons. To me the future is unknown, but I am trusting in my Saviour to lead and guide me. My chief desire is that in all things He might have the pre-eminence in my life. Ephesians 2:8,9. “For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. It was a joyful day when I accepted Christ as my Saviour. There were many happy days since that time. I thank God for the way He is leading my life and for calling me to come to Bible School to prepare for His service. My desire is to live a life that will glorify Him. To Him be all the praise. MARGARET MUSSER These years in Bible School have been the happiest years of my life for during this time I have come to know my Lord more intimately and His Word has become more precious to me. His Word is so full of wonderful promises. I especially like Philippians 4:6,7. “In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.” DONALD PIERCE I praise the Lord for the salvation that is mine in Jesus Christ. I was saved about three and one half years ago. II Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. This verse then became a reality in my life. I also praise God for leading me here to Bible School that I may know Him better in the future. JOSEPHINE POLEY IDA MAE SHAFFER I praise the Lord for saving me, and sending me to Bible School so I can study His Word. I have enjoyed going to classes and listening to my teachers as they taught the Word of God to me. Also I’ve enjoyed fellowshipping with the other students. My prayer is that I will always go in the way that the Lord leads me, and that I will never do anything displeasing to Him. May my life always show forth the beauty of the Lord Jesus Christ. I praise the Lord that I met Christas my personal Saviour when a child, and since that time, His peace has been a reality in my life. It is wonderful to be able to lean on Him knowing that His grace is sufficient for every circumstance because “Great is His faithful¬ ness. Truly, I want my life to be filled with the like¬ ness of my Lord that I might be a useful vessel through which God might receive the honor and glory due to His matchless name. LEROY SHELLY Isaiah 12:3. “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” I thank God for the privilege of drawing living water from the wells of salvation as I’ve drawn from His living Word in my studies in Bible School. While working with the Dairy Herd Improvement Company in New York, God called me to Bible School and gave me a desire to study His Word. Even after spending these years in Bible School, I realize how little I know of God and His Word. MELVIN SHULTZ Psalms 91:2. “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God; in Him will I trust.” Eleven years ago I took refuge in the Lord Jehovah. Praise His Holy name. Now He is my wonder¬ ful Saviour and friend. I have given my all to Him, because He gave His life for me. Now I rest in His atoning blood shed on the cross for me. How can I do less than give Him my best, to serve Him faithfully till death. STELLA SISK OTTO STAHLE “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift, the Lord Jesus Christ, I praise God because I know I am saved by the precious shed blood of Christ. As a Christian, my desire is to magnify Christ and to do His will. I thank God for the privilege of Bible School which has been a blessing and preparation for His service. My prayer is to know Him and to make Him known so in that last day 1 can say I have fought the good fight. I John 5:13. Romans 5:20b. “But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.” I thank God that His grace is greater than my sin. A few years ago 1 received Christ as my personal Saviour. A short time later the Lord called me to Bible School. I certainly am thankful for the things which God has allowed me to learn in my stay at Bible School. I can be confident that God will show me the future as 1 commit myself to Him. Psalms 32:8. ROBERT TAPPER “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid: for Jehovah, even Jehovah, is my strength and song; and he is become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2. “And the glory which thou hast given me I have given unto them; that they may be one, even as we are one; I in them and thou in me, that they may be perfected into one.” John 17:22-23. All His eternal, heavenly and victorious glory, Christ has given me. Oh, that I might be unto His glory and magnification. FRANKLIN TOBIAS I praise the Lord for Romans 10:9. It was on the basis of this verse, at a summer Bible camp, that I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour; and later the Lord led me to study at the Lancaster School of the Bible. I praise Him for the many precious hours spent in the study of His Word. Proverbs 3:5,6 have been so precious to me since I have known Him. Pray for us that our labors have not been in vain. junior Class Zhe Helen Miller, President; Thelma Veatch, Treasurer; Mary Nettles, Secretary; Charles Lamb, Vice President. s we, the Junior Class, look back over another blessed year of training for His service we realize more and more how real our class verse, motto, and song have become to each member of the class ° Ur “I SaVed t0 Serve ” which is a real challenge to each of us. We praise God for the many Skip n 8 ? 1V t n US t0 serveHimin word - deed and song. A few of the members of our class have Good News Clubs which prove to be a great blessing. Our verse found in II Corinthians 5:20 has become real and living as we realize what a great privilege it is to be ambassadors for Christ. We hold in our hands the answer for a perplexed, sin-sick world the b essed gospel. Our one desire in life is to see others become children of the King, which reminds us of our class song, A Child of the King.” Although some of the members of our class have left throughout the course of the year, we praise God tor the new ones He has sent our way. We become more conscious day by day of the love and concern Christ has for each of us individually. Regardless of the place, if we are in His will, we will find perfect peace. We also praise God fo r the difficult circumstances He allows us to go through. It’s wonderful when we can look into His face and smile through any trying experience. These experiences cause us to long for our real home in Heaven for we are foreigners here on a journey called “life”. As we look forward to our Senior year, we can only say, “We know not what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future.” D. M. DeHAVEN - “Dealer in fine cars” - 828 S. Lead On, Oh King Eternal” --the beseeching hymn in the hearts and on the lips of the members of the Freshmen class. Praise be unto God for His guiding hand as we have been led here to prepare for His service! The class represents many walks of life, from numerous states of the union. But all have a fresh vision of Christ crucified-God’s perfect sacrifice for sinful men and a deep rooted desire to know Him and to make Him known. Oh, God, keep us steadfast in the faith, diligent, and not slothful in our King’s business but ever en¬ couraged by His Word and enabled by His Spirit! Class motto-- “Onward Ever Serving.” “Crimson and White” were the colors chosen by the class, significant of the cleansed heart through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s Son. President Jack Weisheier was chosen leader of the class, with vice-president, Milton Hicks; secretary- treasurer, Alma Redcay; and chaplain, Nancy Baker, as co-workers. Practical training included ministries at such places as the rescue mission, county home, and rural churches and Sunday Schools. Zhe Evening School The Evening School of the Lancaster School of the Bible is designed for those people who work during the day and are not able to attend our Day School. Some are housewives, Sunday School teachers and even pastors who want to learn more about the Word of God. Most of the students come from Lancaster and the surround¬ ing counties. Our Evening School was organized in 1933 along with the Day School. During those early years the Evening School met three times a week, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Our Evening School now meets only Monday and Tuesday evenings. School activity starts at 7:00 P.M. and ends at 9:25 P.M. At 7:00 P.M. the hustle and bustle of students can be heard as these pilgrims and sojourners make their last effort to reach class on time. As everyone quiets down, the throne of grace is approached to ask for the blessing of God upon the class. Our faithful teachers then give forth those truths which God has taught them. The subjects that are taught are the regular day school subjects with the exception of languages and they carry the same credit as Day School. The entire course requires a minimum of four year’s study. We thank God for the ministry of our Evening School as we realize that it is meeting a need and we pray that the Lord will continue to bless our School in the years to come. Special Students Zke School of Music Through the years, “Mr. Music” has trod a rather lonely path at L.S.B. To be sure, he has been called on occasionally to cheer the hearts of wayfaring pilgrim students in their journey toward the Celestial City; for does not the adage speak truthfully that says, “Music hath charms”? Several years ago, however, “Mr. Music” was greatly encouraged by the addition of several evening school courses in his field. Then the establishment of the Chapel Choir just a few months later brought added zest into his life. This, followed by the establishment of the INSTITUTE of SACRED MUSIC (an evening school division) and culminating this year in a music curriculum for day school, Las really made Mr. Music” a part of L.S.B. So today “Mr. Music” continually gladdens the paths of those strangers who here “bide a wee on their way to an eternal home. Some think him a bit demanding in requiring so many hours of technical studies ana tedious practice. “What relationship,” say they, “have these studies to the life of a pilgrim?” To which “Mr. Music” reverently replies, “It is but to glorify their God and to better enable them to praise His name when they sing the ‘new song’ in the Celestial City.” Harold R. These chapel periods have been a source of great spiritual blessing to many students. As the students approach the auditorium for their chapel- service, soft strains of organ music are heard. Quietly they take their places and bow their hearts in communion and meditation with their Saviour. Their hearts and voices then blend together in singing the doxology. Sometimes a student brings the message for the morning; other times a local pastor, missionary or one of the faculty members will bring the message. These messages have been very profitable and chal¬ lenging to many hearts. As strangers and pilgrims the students have been exhorted to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul. Almost every weekend some twenty-five voices are heard singing praise to our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This is the third season for the Chapel Choir. The choir has sung at places such as Johnstown, Altoona, Lewistown, Lebanon, Chester and Philadelphia. There are also plans underway for a spring tour in the South. God has used the choir in an unusual way. Through this medium of music, souls have been brought to Christ, and young people have dedicated themselves for full-time Christian training for Him. In its program, the choir sings a varied arrangement of numbers from the very inspiring classic, “God So Loved the World,” to the ever popular negro spiritual, “Certainly Lord.” The Choir is directed by Mr. Harold Lehman, a graduate of Wheaton College. The officers this year are: president, Daniel Klim; vice- president, Milton Hicks; treasurer, Jack Weisheier; secretary, Joy Mundell; business manager, Robert Tapper; librarian, James Weaver; assistant librarian, Grace Asper; and Delores Diven doing her fine job at the piano. 0ur Chapel rw Mr - Harow fi‘ r , C r dUCf ° r ’ ' Lehman. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.” Compliments of: II CORINTHIANS 5:17 SAMUEL SHOTZBERGER Lord. j LANCASTER R D 6, PA. It is because we are constrained by love. Truly we feel as did Paul in II Corinthians 5:14 “The love of Christ constraineth.” Yes, our reason for praying, for supporting and looking forward to the foreign mission field is that we can do nothing else when we see God’s plan for spreading the gospel. As a fellowship, we hold monthly prayer meetings concerning foreign missions, and support two orphans in an orphanage in Greece. We also hold weekly chapel services having guest mis¬ sionaries speak to us who emphasize God’s plan for evangelizing the world. “The Missionary” by Henry W. Secondly, it is to assist in the supervision of the many duties that need to be done around the dormitory such as arranging dish schedules and assigning cleaning duties. Membership is comprised of an elected representative from each class. The ones elected to serve on the Council for this year are as follows: Daniel Klim, Mary Nettles and Milton Hicks. This year for the first time we have had a girl repre- senatative on our Council because it was decided that this was the most effective and fair procedure to follow. A Zalk With My father Last night I talked with my Father As I knelt sorely humbled before Him And He told me He wants me and loves me And I told Him I adore Him. Oh, He had to quiet my heart first My thoughts they were jumbled, shipshod He had to remind me quite firmly That now I was speaking with God. And after His peace spread throughout me And my thoughts up to Him had soared I acknowledged that 1 stood before Him Through the Blood of my precious Lord. And His Spirit which dwells inside me Led me softly and sweetly in prayer That those things which my heart unburdened Might sound pleasing to Him up there. I laid open to Him sins committed And I told Him 1 knew they weren’t right I repented that I had displeased Him Then-thru Jesus-the scarlet turned white. Being loosed from my sins I thanked Him For His wonderful mercy and love And the multitude of His blessings That have showered on me from above. We fellowshiped and I thanked Him And I took them one by one The first and most important My salvation thru Jesus His Son. My eyes filled with tears as I pondered The heat and the torment of Hell And what He did suffer to save me This Jesus that I love so well. To try to voice my gratitude Why, I didn’t know how to start But He already had what He wanted My broken and contrite heart. I thanked Him for house and for family For our food, our clothing, our health Yea, truly my Almighty Father Has exceedingly blessed us with wealth. I thanked Him that when things looked so hopeless And Satan did his forces employ I had but to look to my Father To gain strength and assurance and joy. And 1 thanked Him for all of His care For the infinite love He has shown And rejoiced that it would continue Till I face Him at His throne. My body I vowed to His service And my spirit and soul the same That unresting in labor I’ll strive To bring glory and praise to His name. Yes, last night I talked with my Father And in fellowship we became one At the Great Throne of Heaven I spoke To the Father by the Spirit through the Son. In June of 1949 the Alumni Association of the Lancaster School of the Bible and School of Theology was organized. The fivefold purpose for its organization is as follows: 1. To have Christian fellowship with one another. 2. To maintain strict adherence to the present doctrinal basis in the school and reprove in love, but with all firmness, any deviation from the doctrinal basis by either a teacher or member of the Board of Trustees. 3. To definitely aid the School through the ministry of prayer and giving. 4. Mutual sharing of spiritual helps with the members of the Association. 5. To establish communication through a qu arterly publication entitled, “The Alumni Informer.” Graduates of the school eligible for membership are given a free membership in the Association for the first year. In the following years a membership fee of $1.00 per year is charged. Students who completed one year in Day School or two years in Evening School are eligible for membership in the Association as Associate members. However, they do not have the voting privileges of regular members. An annual meeting at the close of each year is held for the purpose of fellowship and business. At this time officers are elected by vote. No member may serve more than one term in any office. Compliments of: MR. VERNON FREY - R.
