Class l-llstory In the year 1941 Goopie began his task After being carefully pre pared the class of 53 was to enter grade school To tell you of their Joys troubles and pranks would take the complete LANETTE but finally a short eight years later being much wiser they entered Lanark Public High School GOOp16 proudly enrolled his forty proteges into their first year of high school and suffered with them as they went through the rigors of 1n1t1at1on GOOp19 saw quite a different group of students that day The girls were dressed in overalls and sported corn husk beards and corncob p1p9S The boys were quite indescrlbable although Goopie did recognize a vest and a rope Watch chain The class officers were Byron Hawbecker President Lois Ware Vlce President Rody Rahn Secretary and Duane Lotz Treas urer Their Student Council representatives were Jeanette Wllkln and Irvin Z1er Thelma Z1er was the candidate for Basketball Queen and Fireman s Ball Queen By the time next September rolled around GOOPIE saw a change ln hrs future Sophomores They were getting quite learned in the ways of the world Their officers this year were Duane Lotz President, Lois Ware V1cePres1dent Delores Earnest Secretary and Wayne Martln Treasurer Student Council representatives were Jeanette Wllk1H and Rodv Rahn Thelma Z1er was candidate for Basketball Queen and Jean Engel was nominee for Fireman s Ball Queen During this year the class plays Naturally Goopie was quite proud Finally in 1951 they became selected upperclassmen Moving into the newly constructed high school proved very nice Our officers that year were Wayne Martin President Rodv Rahn Vlce President Jeanette Wllklh Secretary and Lois Ware Treasurer Our representatives to Stu dent Council were Thelma Z1er and Duane Lotz We Won the magazine sale chose class rings and sponsored the Prom In April after long prac t1ce We presented MR BARRYS ETCHINGS Our candidate for Fire man s Ball Queen was Mary Ann Deets and Thelma Z1er was our candi date for Basketball Queen In 1952 after three years of preparation 34 Seniors entered Lanark High on the last lap of their Journey For Senior class officers they elected Gerald Martin President John Merboth Vice President Gary Schr1ener Secretary and Duane Lotz Treasurer Their Student Council representa tives were Evelyn Lego and Wayne lVlart1n They again Won the magazine sale selected pictures and published the yearbook The1r Senior play was THE ROBE At the request of the Ministerial Association it was presented again later in the year Thelma Z1er was Homecoming Queen LOIS Ware reigned over the Flreman s Ball Finally in June with sad and reminiscent eyes Goopie watched them graduate and go their way HIS Job had been successfully completed FORTY NINE y . . u . - , . , . Closs Prophecy The year IS 1973 the place Cartoonvllle USA The l1ttle Vlllage seems to be IH qu1te an uproar I th1nk Ill ask th1s l1ttle fellow over here just what It s all about It seems as though yesterday was check up day the day when all the characters go to check up on the1r 1espect1ve grad uatlon classes After much confus1on we catch up W1th GOOpl9 our spon sor who looks as though he s had qu1te a strenuous Journey We understand lmmedlately when he reveals the present occupa tlons of our former classmates He was forced to fly to Lower S1ber1a to locate Rody Rahn now a famous world traveler We remember that he always d1d get around qu1te a b1t HIS co p1lot on the tr1ps IS the renowned av1ator Wayne Martm It seems as though Wayne IS also qu1te a composer One of h1S most recent h1ts IS Im Up In The Clouds Over You He com poses wh1le fly1ng Author1t1es say Bert s strong po1nt IS h1s rhythm How ever he confesses that he gets h1s beat from drummer Leslie Walter who often travels w1th hlm on h1s way to concerts HIS accompanlst IS Glorla Sword The duo has become qu1te famous playlng It Takes Two To Tangle Speak1ng of tangl1ng we f1nd that Irvln Zler IS now an accompl1shed contort1on1st Of course Irv1n always was mlxed up He manages Kay Fllcklnger and Thelma Zler the Human Pretzels They always were get t1ng tangled up over someth1ng Glen Kuhlemxer IS also dolng well advxsxng the government on Rus s1an affa1rs You see he s the only one who can pronounce the names He and Dorls Edwards have become qu1te close frlends She IS an archeolo g1St She always could dlg up someth1ng about somebody Her asslstants are Duane Lotz and George Mlller It seems as though Dorls as yet cant afford machlnery and George and Duane are the only ones tall enough to reach the earth s surface to hand the fosslls to Dorls Eva Merboth and Joan Mlller from thelr cook1ng sk1ll are demon strat1ng how to bo1l water on TV The only trouble IS that they burn It On the program after the1rs we f1nd classmate Gerald Martm whose curly ha1r IS st1ll the envy of all He tells GOOPIQ It stays curly from uslng SC1 ent1st Byron Hawbeckers new d1scox ery a permanent for curly headed people We purchase some and after los1ng half our ha1r learn lt IS qu1te good Jerry Toml1nson's Death Defylng Drlvers are do1ng well Jerry tells Goop1e h1s star attractlon IS Bull Nelson who IS st1ll up to h1s old trlcks Wlth the a1d of Kelth Banley he has managed to lnvent a one wheeled car uslng no motor We ask what makes It run and are told that they use a cat wh1ch purrs They have h1red Donna FllCkll1g0l' who IS kept busy pettmg all the cats to keep them contented Jean Engel as soon as graduatmg became a secretary and has worked FIFTY ONE , , , . . . . . . , . . - - 9 u H - ' 1 . , - , . . , . , . . . . . , . .
