Contained in the pages ot our 1951 Lanette, pub- lished by the last graduating class in the old building, are the performers and the star attractions of our L. H. S. Big Top. We have tried to put all the acts ol the last year into the center ring, so that each one will leave a lasting impression of the good times we shared to- gether. As the show moves on to the new Big Top next year, we bid a fond farewell to the halls of L. I-l. S. We sincerely wish the classes who will graduate from the new building all the enjoyment we have had in the old. 39 - uin - - '7 is .,l-sw.. w an ,,,S'5ff l s..r...r .s l ,yn-1 .K ,, , K ., H ..5krii,,..fi: ' - - - i A - ' '-L,2w-,ss wx if if - - . , f - ,, V . For four years you, the Seniors of Lanark High School, have been under the whip of your trainers, learning new routines and perfecting old ones. The big tent has provided you shelter while you have learned the ideals of democratic living. Now you will be called upon to translate these ideals into reality. Your final performance is over. You have given us a fine show. In the years to come, when you hear the crack of the whip, may you always respond in a way that will forever preserve that which is so dear to us, our American way of life. E. K. GRAHAM. Lotz Bnaaclogf .IL One of the most important groups in our school is the Board of Edu- cation. Their task is to formulate the policies upon which our school functions. This group is the force that cracks the whip over and around the performers in the Big Top. These men have been in charge since July 1, 1949. Stanley Finifrock is the ringmaster with Russell Lamoreux as his secretary. They have spent much time trying to keep our school performing smoothly. At the present time, they are carrying on the task of managing the ground crew to complete our new Big Top, which is fast taking shape. Were it not for the school board, we would not have had the many opportunities and experiences which we have enjoyed during our high school days. For all these things We are very grateful. The activities include basketball, volleyball, softball, badminton, and hockey. Occasionally the group is found out of town bowling or skating. These are the girls responsible for the annual basketball dance. One of the girls is elected queen to reign over the dance. Daddy Date Night is an annual event and play days are anticipated very eagerly. The organization raises funds by selling hot dogs and candy bars at our football and basketball games. These funds are used to send delegates to the Lake Geneva Of- ficers' Training Camp which is held during the summer. Miss Lois Leisson is the leader of this active organization. WITNESSED BY: Leona Larson. Jack Ritenour. Mr. Bergdall. SIXTY SIX Klaaa' A long time ago, in 1939, a troupe of scared little boys and girls entered Lanark Public Grade School to prepare for their performance in the Big Top, Lanark Commu- nity Unit High School. After eight years, with the help of the ringmasters, the faculty, they were ready for high school. Eventually, thirty-four students entered the Big Top. The class officers were: president, Joyce Fickes, vice-president, Tomman Cunningham, secretary, Paul Butts, treasurer, Loris Dawsg Student Council members were Jo Ann Bares and Keith Kniss. Dick Miller, a freshman, was a member of the first five on the basketball team. On Initiation Day, the boys came dressed in trousers inside-out and high heeled shoes. The girls came with pajamas inside-out and bedroom slippers. Jo Ann Bares was candi- date for Football Queen. Joyce Fickes was candidate for Basketball Queen. Beginning another year of our four-year contract under the Big Top, were thirty- three performers. The officers were: president, Bennett Dambmang vice-president, Rich- ard Miller, secretary, Jo Ann Bares, treasurer, Ivon Miller. Student Council members were Marjorie Knorr and Keith Kniss. Jean Stone was candidate for Fireman's Ball Queen, and Dorothy Fritz was nominated for Basketball Queen. As thirty-two performers went on to the third year, they found it very exciting. Their officers were: president, Bennett Dambmang vice-president, Keith Knissg secre- tary, Jo Ann Bares, treasurer, Roger Finifrock. Student Council members were Ivon Miller and Jean Stone. Among the events that took place were the magazine sale, se- lection of class rings, Junior Play- The Four of Hearts Mystery, and then the Junior- Senior Prom. The theme of the prom was Rose Festival. The prom was held at the Free- port Country Club. Upon entrance into the senior class, they became star performers. They ran a big show-the annual, senior pictures, caps and gowns, and other preparations for grad- uation. The class officers were: president, Jo Ann Bares, vice-president, Keith Knissg secretary, Dorothy Straub, treasurer Bennett Dambman. Student Council members were Jean Stone and Dick Miller. Dorothy Straub was Football Queen. Arlene Stoner was candidate for Fireman's Ball Queen. Dorothy Straub was candidate for Basketball Queen. Now is the time for them to give their academy award performance in everyday living. SIXTY SEVEN Klum 07MPhWlf Upon wondering what happened to some of the performers that graduated from Lanark's Big Top in 1951, I chanced to meet Jim Hoover, just back from winning rec- ognition at the Olympics for his speed in relay races. He told me all about a few of the graduates of '51. Hazel Bonnell owns and manages a combined dance-hall and restaurant. That is where we are now and here we see many familiar faces. Keith Kniss is president of a Lonely Hearts Club. I guess he still hasn't found the ideal mate. Tom Cunningham, who dines here, plays goalie for the Pittsburgh Panti-Waists' ice hockey team. In the same restaurant we find Don Earnest. He is the snuff-chewing fight manager of Gene Frisky Miller. He fights under the title of Tiger Every Saturday night Jo Ann Bares, figure skating star, dines and dances with Dick Miller, pro-football player. They were married and can't decide if they are going to raise a football team or a line of ice skat- ing chorus girls. Paul Butts is a famous man-about-town. He has been seen recently with Phyllis Heckman, only lady wrestler that wrestles midgets! Jim says that Ivon Miller is singing in opera now. Loris Daws has his M.D., and is employed to keep Ivon from be- coming nervous before concerts. Everyone knows that Leanella Pieper has a secret flame in her heart for Ivon. As we were sitting here, Virginia Walter came in. She tells us that she teaches kindergarten in New York. She informs us that Arlene Stoner is married and she and her husband live in North Carolina. He is an officer of the army there. Frances Tomlinson, screen actress, has been dating Bob Miller, famous movie producer. Jean Stone, a famous registered nurse, now has the ambition to become a doctor and set up a practice. Bennett Dambman is now a famous stock broker, who serves also as a presidential adviser in his spare time. Lawrence Hubbard and Bob Truckenmiller, co- owners of the Bang-Up Fix-It Shop, specialize in repairing Dodges and Pontiacs. Law- rence spends his extra money on maintaining a private stable, while Bob opened a skunk pet shop for his wife. They employ as secretary and bookkeeper in their shop, Dorothy Straub, who recently won international fame for her speed and accuracy in typing. Don Gardner, well-known stock car racer in this area, has all his repair work done at the Bang-Up Fix-Iit Shop. Roger Finifrock, Techanical Sgt. in the Marine Corps, spec- ializes in teaching boxing to recruits. Dorothy Fritz, energetic manager of Dot's Dairy Bar, has a few punches she could show Roger, her husband. Jim just told me that Ron- nie Sturtevant is a wrestler, better known as Pretty Boy Sturtevant. Lawrence Derrer is dining here with Ronnie. Lawrence is a National F. F. A. Adviser and an F. F. A. American farmer. Beatrice Grimes tours Europe and the United States with Jim Fricke, and gives concerts whenever asked. Jim spends time spreading international good will throughout the world. As we discuss Jim, we find that he was the last one of that graduating class. Therefore, we break up our luncheon and go our separate ways. We now know the suc- cess of everyone that graduated in 1951. SIXTY EIGHT R. Rife, B. Barber. jcuulofw, Bun, Qiubmm, J. Kloepping, D. Olson, E. Burkholder, H. Engles M. Rahn, R. Zier, W. Bowman.
