FGREWQRD Several developments clearly overshadowed the importance of all other issues in the history of world aflairs during the past year. The initial develop- ment, because it is the ll1OSt immediate problem of mankind, was the continued deterioration - or at least the absence of improvement - in relations between the communist and the free worlds. Failure to remove the sources of conflict between these great power blocs has left man faced by the possibility of nuclear extinction. The persons whose lives are the pages that follow are antipathetic to extinction of any kind. Nothing can change the past.
