The previous year, Gatesville had mauled a good Badger eleveng s o naturallv,we were keyed up and seeking revenge. Captain Dennis wonthe toss and elected to receive. The ball went into the end zone and was carried back to the fifteen yard line. With Hetherly, Payne O'Ne il, and B r i s tol chalking up three and four yards ata time, the Badgers stormed for a touch- down,O'Neil crashing over. This drive took up six first downs and most of the first q ua r ter , Gatesville uncovered their famous aerial attack, but-an inspired line crucified the passers, and the sec ondarycovered the receivers like blankets Payne intercepted two passes and Hetherlyone. The haliendedwith Lampasas covering a Hornet fumble on the Cratesville's 20 yard line. ONE INCH SHORT OF A TOUCHDOWN BILL. I-IAIvLv1ETT BACK Early in the f o u r th quarter, Dennis went over on a quarterback sneak. His t r y for extra point was good. The whole B a d g e r te am, Rush, Bland, Lancaster, McMillan, Elliott, Wi 1 s on, Eubanks, Payne,Dennis, Hetherly, O'Neil, Bristol, Hughes all played one oftheir best g am e s of the season, if not the best. It was a well earned victory.

BILLY ROY THOMAS CENTER Lampasas jour neye d to Fredericksburg for the annual Badger- 'Billy c1assic,always one of the best games of the season. Captain Dennis was hurt on the third play after the kickoff while carrying the ball for six yards andafirstdown. This injury was to keep him out for the rest of the game and most of the remaining season. After recovering a funible deep in Hillbilly territory,the Badgers drove for a touchdown, O'Nei1 carrying it over. In the second quarter, Lam- pasas barely missed a touchdown, Fredericksburg getting the ball on the one foot line on downs. On the firstp1ay,the 'Billy back was dropped for a safety by Hetherly and Lanc a s te r. The kickout was alrnost carried back for a touchdown by Hammett, In the third quarter, Elliott, Badger end, r e c e ived a dislocated elbow and was helped off the field. O'Neil scored again in the third quarter. The Hillbillys we r e never out of the ball game, and only inspired play by the Badgers kept them under check. Whitis, Wilson, and Elliott intercepted passes at oppor tune moments. Itwas the hardest and most fiercely fought game of the season and a vic- tory to be proud of since Fredericksburg went on to win district.
