The previous year, Gatesville had mauled a good Badger eleveng s o naturallv,we were keyed up and seeking revenge. Captain Dennis wonthe toss and elected to receive. The ball went into the end zone and was carried back to the fifteen yard line. With Hetherly, Payne O'Ne il, and B r i s tol chalking up three and four yards ata time, the Badgers stormed for a touch- down,O'Neil crashing over. This drive took up six first downs and most of the first q ua r ter , Gatesville uncovered their famous aerial attack, but-an inspired line crucified the passers, and the sec ondarycovered the receivers like blankets Payne intercepted two passes and Hetherlyone. The haliendedwith Lampasas covering a Hornet fumble on the Cratesville's 20 yard line. ONE INCH SHORT OF A TOUCHDOWN BILL. I-IAIvLv1ETT BACK Early in the f o u r th quarter, Dennis went over on a quarterback sneak. His t r y for extra point was good. The whole B a d g e r te am, Rush, Bland, Lancaster, McMillan, Elliott, Wi 1 s on, Eubanks, Payne,Dennis, Hetherly, O'Neil, Bristol, Hughes all played one oftheir best g am e s of the season, if not the best. It was a well earned victory.

COMING IN FOR A TACKLE. The Badgers opened their 1947 season against the Belton Tigers with high hope s and three starters from the previous year. The game see-sawed back and forth until several good gains by O'Neil andPayne, and a touchdown pass from Heatherly to Hughes put us ahead 6 to O at the half. In the third q uar te r, Bristol broke loose but fumbled on the Belton four ya r d lineg the ball rolled over the double stripes, and when the pile was uncovered, W. T. Rush had made his first touchdown. A slight case of over- confidence, let d own s, and bad tac k lin g enabled Belton to pound three q uic k touchdowns in the last quarter. The Badgers tried to overcome their de - ficit but failed, the game ending 18 to 12. CARL MCMILLLAN TACKLE IVLARSHAL L RUQH GU scored.
