NOTES FROM THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT At the Greenwood County Music Festival held in Hamilton March ZH, the Girls Ensemble received a rating ofhighly superior: tte Mixed Ensemble, highly sunerior: Boys Glee Club and Boys Small Ensemble, superior: and Mixed Chorus, excellent. In received a highly superior rating. Doris Anne Winzeler sang HBoat Songn and Doris Schwab sang Why the Bend of tie Rivern: bot? girls received ratings of superior. ,Jim Van Felt received a rating of excellent for his rendition of HThe Open Road.H ' The Girls Ensemble, Mixed Vocal Ensemble, Boys Glee Club, and Boys Double Quartet attended the District Festival in Emnoria Anril 2-3 and were rated highly superior, superior, superior, superior, and excdlent. The vocal solos and a piano solo by Doris Anne Winzeler were rated excellent. The Girls Ensemble, by virtue of tteir rating I, attended the State Festival in Emporia April 2b. The Lamont Grade School participated in the Greenwood County Grade School Music Festival in Eureka January 27. Each school sent four entries. Patty Sutton played nThe Swann by Saint Saens, Ione Anliker sang nLullabyH by Mozart, and the chorus sang HSomewhere A Child Is Sineingn by Dykema: all three events were gven superior ratinss. The sextetg composed of Ione Anliker, Marjorie Schmutz, Janet Ott, Patty Sutton, Bill Van Pelt, and Orlando Jantzg sang HFather Hear Us As We Prayu and were rated excellent. Highly superior ratings were not given -in the grade school festivals. The M-H Ensemble: composed of Ione Anliker, Marjorie Schmutz, Shirley Carson, Janet Ott, Patty Sutton, Orlando Jantz, Jerry Carson, and Bill Van Peltg sang two numbers at the County N-H Festival in Eureka and were selected to represent Green- wood County at the District Festival in Howard April lO. The High School Mixed Chorus, Boys Glee Club, and Girls Glee Club, together with the Grade School Choir, furnished the incidental music for nThe Star of Bethlehem Still Shinesn at Christmas time. 7 E.
