Back Row: Roy Lawsong Dale Ottg Gene Storrerg and Larry Mcllvain. FRESH AN CLASS HISTORY The Freshmen of l9M7-MP began their careers as high school students on Sept amber l,l9M7. Seven students enrolled--Roy Lawson and Raymond McCoy from Grldleyg Mary Adel Ott, Dale Ott, Larry Mcllvain, and Gene Storrer from Lena Valley School: and Doris Anne Winzeler from the Lamont Grade School. At Christmas Raymond McCoy moved to Virgil, reducing the class enrollment to.s1x. The following class officers were elected early in the year: President, Dale Gttz' Vice-President, Larry Mcllvaing Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Adel Ott: Stu- dent Council Renresentatives, Roy Lawson and Doris Winzeler: and Snonsor, Mrs. Sarah Harrison. Friday of the first week was a miserable day for the class. Hzwas even worse than that very first day when they had come to school feeling so green and con- fused. It was on this particulfr Friday that the upper classmen had insisted on initiating them. They were forced to wear on ons on strings around their neccsg the boys were made to wear dresses, and the girls, gunny sacks. During the day they had to do many other outrageous things for their majesties, the upper class- men. That night they were put through a oaddle line and had to do all the usual things freshmen are required to do. The Freshman Class was well represented in the different phases of the school athletic orogram during the year. Dale Ott played on the football team in the fallg all the freshman boys went out for basaetball and played on the second team: and Dale Ot' and Roy Lawson rlayed baseball in the spring. Doris Anne Winzeler gave a declamation at the County Literary Festival in March, receiving the only hlgrly superior rating given for declamatfons. Doris Anne also earned a superior rating for her solo, HThe Boat Song,n in the girls high voice division of the County Music Festival. The Freshmen were entertained at two parties during the year. The first was the result of their winning the ticket-selling campaign for the last home football game. Mr. Saffell took them on a line narty to Madison. They saw a movie and rf?
