RED DEVIL Lamont Public School Lamont, Oklahoma m The 1971 Red Devil is a student's view of a year that has rapidly become insep- arable from all that have gone before and will follow. But what time erases, this book will preserve the year as students saw it at Lamont School. What began in the hot summer month of August is now just a step toward another beginning. The first week of selecting classes has now ended with ACT test, production tests, term papers, and se- mester exams. For some it was a first year of initiation, for others a last year of preparation. In the classroom , as well as the athlet- ics, students met victory and defeat. 1970-1971 was a game ... teacher... friend ... past ... hope ... fear ... memory and beginning toward the future. 2 3 The Senior Class of 1971 proudly dedicates the Red Devil to Miss Jan Braden. She is a remarkable inspiration to our class and school. From our Freshman year until our Senior year, her patience and understanding has guided us through ex- periences we'll never forget. She is not only our class sponsor and English teacher, but a true friend, always there when we needed her. We leave Lamont High School wiser and better prepared for the future having known her. To you, Jan Braden, we dedicate our 1971 yearbook. With all its memories on each page that you look. There are pages of sports, royalty, honors, and fun. To you. Miss Braden, we say Your job was well done. May the future hold lots of good luck for you, because the class of 1971 wishes that too. (Our special thanks to Mrs. Leslie White for her help.) 4 4 I shall always be grateful to you the student body, faculty, and patrons of this school for your cooperation and understanding. Life does not consist either of wallowing in the past or peering anxiously at the future. It is good for one to appreciate that life is now - this hour - this day. We must apply ourselves now; we must prepare ourselves now - great things are expected of you. Education can either be a rewarding or dis- couraging experience depending on the effort put forth by both students and teachers. That Lamont School is indeed fortunate to have a combination of qualified teachers, willing students, and interested parents has made my job as principal quite rewarding. Few words can express my hopes for those students grad- uating, my concern for those students yet to graduate, and my interest in those people in- volved in the education of our young people. The purpose of the Oklahoma High School Honor Society is to promote high standards of scholarship among students. Averages were taken on grades from second semester of the preceding year and first semester of the year in which members were chosen. The upper ten per cent of the high school enrollment is eligible for membership in the State Honor Society. These people have worked hard for their grades and we commend them for their leadership and ability. 82 83 We, the Red Devil staff, on behalf of the Senior Class, wish to acknowledge our gratitude to the citizens of the Lamont community for their unselfish cooperation with our money raising projects and other class activities this past year and previous years.
