As the weeks passed the smfall red- headed bundle of joy became an often crying, but happy child. I suppose everyone is trying to guess who I'm talking about, so I'll tell you. Yes! You're right, its me, and right now I'm writting the story of my life. Time passed and I had a birthday and became four years old I told mother and dad that I would get too old to go the school if I waited much longer, but, they didn't seem to agree. Eventually however, I got to be five years old and I started off to school. I liked school a lot and it never seemed to last long enough. Teens: The years kept rolling by and when I was in the sixth grade I started to town school which I liked even better. I thought Jr. High was swell but my Freshman year topped them all. It has been over three years since I wrote the first section of my life stony. Now I have been ask to continue it. A lot has happened since then. I started to school the last of August in 1950. This was the beginning of my Sophmore year, and up to September 20th everything went fine, but on that morning I woke up with an awful headache, and by that evening I wasn't any better so they called the doctor. After he checked me over we found out that I had polio so they took me to Blank Memorial Hospital in Des Moines. The first day I didn't feel to bad, but, the second day I took a change for the worse, and by three o'clock in the afternoon I was put in an iron lung. Ten long months rolled by, and finally I got out of the iron lung. It sure seemed good to get rid of it. Every day my routine was about the same. Then one day we Cmy folks, doctor and ID decided that I should go the Warm Springs for they have more equipment for treating polio patients. So, on June 29 we left for Warm Springs, Georgia, and two days later I was in my temporary new home. I really enjoyed my stay down there and they really did me a lot of good. Then on Nov. Qhth, I got to come home. My mother and I came on the train an as it was my first train ride I really enjoyed it. I guess this concludes the second section of my life story, but I know I shall never forget the wonderful class I would have graduated with. I' ' , ...i And we, the class of 1953 will never forget you Glenda, and the wonderful times we've had together from the time we first knew you till now. Our teachers loved us. Madolyn had her nose in a circle at the blackboard when she wasn't getting hit on the head with a ruler. Cheerleaders this year were Myrna, Marena, Joyce and Jill. In the eighth grade they were Myrna, Marena, along with Louita and Pauline.Wg were excited when our cheerleaders got new red and white satin jackets. Margaret had her mouth taped and Mr. MacDonald slapped Chuck Miller so hard his head bounced against the wall. By the way what happened to the committee of two that were going to swipe Mrs. Del De's leather strap? Mrs. Wheeler made one large mistake. She would put one person in the Hcoolern and while they were turned into ice-cubes reading encyclopedias she would forget she had anyone in there and put several others in and then the party was on. The girls started wearing lipstick this year and those who put it on dark were considered bold. A few new faces were added in Jr. High, Chuck Miller, Loretta Wion, Larry Wilcoxson, Dick Twito, Larry Davis, Larry Kaestner. we lost Don Monroe. We entered High School thinking we were the big wheels, but we found we were only spokes. We were joined this year by Burton Brown, Audry Phillips, Fanella Hill, Esta Hill, Junior Evans, Donald Keith, Marilyn Taylor, Jay Allen, Darrel Childers, Ina Lou Snethen, Delorus Smith, Carolyn Elston, Donna Driskill, Floella Gardner, Darlene Heide, Beth Snethen, Mary Ellen Snethen and Yvonne Wardrip. Those who served at the Jr. Sr. Banquet this year were John Walden and Kay Reynard, hatchecks, Mary Closson, Margaret Bartlett, M rna Omstead, and Beth Snethen, waitresses Larry Mitchell, Bob Watts, Tom Allen, and Larry Wilcoxson as waiters. Another year rolled around and we entered the tenth grade. we had rare times in Biology this year with General Swanson as ourinstructer . Some of the boys flipped coins to decide Whether the answers were true or false. New members this year were Curtis Brotherton, Jessica Cheasbro, and Donald Cook. Glenda Turpin one of our classmates was stricken with polio soon after school started. Our one thrill of the year was getting to decorate for commencement. we found our Junior year a busy one. We worked very hard on our Jr. Sr. Banquet, Gay Paree. All Juniors combined talents and spent many hours painting our backdrop. Many DSW F0maHCSS blossomed and suddenly died. Larry Mitchell fthe ice-pickj who was to Ellfe the 106'-bI'6ak9I'S, arrived seconds before he was to give his Speech. We had many swell times this year when we took the Bluegrass Conference in football and track. The big game of the season was with Osceola when we won 27 to l2.
