f A Markmarh 1512111 nf QBLII' Qigh Srhnnl The old East Slde Hlgh School bulldmg was erected about the year year The more advanced pupxls were asslgned to the upper rooms of the bulldmg w1th A A Roy as teacher Durmg the first few years verv llttle hlgh school work was pursued but a begmnmg was made and the founda t1on la1d for more advanced work 1n the future A few years later Mr W L Andrews took charge of the schools and a year later was followed by Mr D F Lambert who had the honor of graduatlng the hrst class five glrls and one boy After fin1sh1ng grammar work they centered the1r efforts malnly on Rhetorlc H1St0Fy Advanced Arlthmetlc and a few weeks ln some of the SCIGHCGS In the sprmg of 1889 J A f unsollev w as elected prmclpal and held that pos1t1on a l1ttle over fix e years In 1890 he graduated the second class con s1st1ng of five glrls and three boys Algebra had been added and the work 1n Englxsh and Natural Sclence was contlnued and enlarged The school prospered and the numbers mcreased from the begmmng In the early I1ll'lBt16S It became necessary to provlde for more room For five years there were no graduatmg classes new ertheless the schools were 5 . , A y' 1 l .
