F OREWORD The school year begins. Many find l-,H.S. halls strange as they walk down them for the first time, while others discover that the familiar things of our school M-faces. classrooms. s p i r i t-re- main, Laughter again fills the halls: eager footsteps bound the stairs. As the pace of the school year quiclcens. we find ourselves lost in the exuberance of cheering for the team. Yet we experience the s a m e spirited feeling-quieter. though-as we proudly sing our Alma Mater. Term themes, e x a rn s. log- arithms-all new, all strange-at first confuse and frustrate us, but then our eyes are opened to the underlying purposes, growing and learning.

The 1959 740I'llrItlfI is lovingly and respectfully dedicated to Miss Bennie Speck. who gave her time and efforts to the annual staff for ten years when she served as faculty sponsor. Her understanding and h.1rd work helped to produce ten outstanding yearbooks, and the staffs of those ten years will never be able to say just how much they love and appreciate here l 1 1 4 4 In her role as sponsor of the annual staff, Miss Speck be- came a close friend to her editors. Shown here with jay 1, Claiborne, associate editor in 1958, Miss Speck also worked with these editors: Bill Cox, Venna Lou Morrisett. Martin Burkhead, Roy Mac Tidwell, Barbara Drennan, Nancy Stuart, Carolyn McMullen, Stephany Stephens, Sunny Barrow, David Olson. and Connie Nix. However, annual staff workers are not the only students who love Miss Speck. The students who study English in her classes know that she always is courteous and friendly. She takes time to help everyone, and everyone benefits from her tactful encouragement. For these reasons, the staff of 1959 chose to dedicate this book to MISS BENNIE SPECK.
