V, SEPTEMBER came, and the chilling breezes of autumn whispered across our slowly awakening campus. We returned, eager to renew old friendships and reluctant to explore new textbooks . . . OCTOBER brought to Lamesa High its promise of frost and football. We, yelled for our team 'til our throats were husky and lungs ached. . . Holidays in NOVEMBER. Homecoming fun, too much turkey-a welcomed pause. DECEMBER caught us dreaming of tinsel and myriad parties, of mistletoe and peppermint canes . . .The semester was gone. Cramming for exams almost ruined JANUARY.. .We saw our grades, then sighed with relief or vowed once more that next semester would be different . . . FEBRUARY waltzed in, bringing romance with lacy valentines and red satin hearts. Spring thawed through and into MARCH. Our fancies turned. Our hearts were suddenly very young and sometimes gullible . . .With APRIL came a lull for Easter. Teachers lectured and heads nodded drowsily. Spring fever . . .MAY came all too soon. Exams were taken and farewells were spoken. Familiar faces disappeared . . .Some of us graduated. We wore our mortarboards and gowns and pretended that nothing had changed. Somehow we weren't convinced . . . And time passes by, leaving behind the unforgettable ioys and the inevitable regrets and the hope of tomorrow . . , always tomorrow. ww . W-+R... .., , f I If 3 II SENIOR SIDE LINES 15 B BIE When four young students poseu for their first school pictures, little did Bobby, Stephany, Sonny, and Connie realize that one day they were to head the Senior Class, Annual Staff, A Cappella Choir, and Booster Club. Preston and Aneasef not dreaming of the responsibilities they must assume as presidents of F.F.A. and F.H.A., looked utterly carefree in their first grade photos. From the beginning Kenneth, Car- olyn, Donald, and Maurice showed a marked musical talent which later helped them to gain a place in the Golden Tornado Band. The over- alls of Norman and Leon show that they were already planning agricultural careers. Sue Barron was a well-dressed first-grader whose hair bows were the envy of the entire school. Kenneth, Conrad, and Sleepy began early peeking in the Recreation Club. The curls of Gloria don't make her seem happy, but they make her look cute. J L .. . T 3 Q 3 li ,.. Yes, this is the graduating class of 1955! The cherubic faces seen here were destined to be- come the not-so-angelic guys and gals known as the Senior Class of Lamesa High School. Two early leaders were Joyce and Martha, A 4 who were to become Student Council Officers. During the first years of their education, Omalee and Linda Lou impressed their classmates with their stirring declamations. Carol, Nancy, and Mona learned their ABC's well with the inten- tion of becoming the fastest typists in L.H.S. Singing has always been fun for Marcella, Kay, Darlene, Rufine, and Rose, and that is why they are in the alto and soprano sections of A Cappella C 'r. In the first grade many students began t Jrelop certain interests which they still en- I : Glenn discovered airplanes, cowboy Norris liked food, John snapped pictures, and Jay be- gan to run drags, At Union Ernestine started young her career as a heartbreaker. The puzzled look on Kenneth's face proves that he was try- ing to solve one of the chemistry problems at which he is now so adept. '45 hff Q VN? I have enjoyed three good school years in Lamesa. They have been happy years because you have contributed much in making them worth while. As you know, the year T954 was the centennial year for Texas Public Schools. Schools have progressed in a fine way over this one hundred year period. If tomorrow is to be what we desire, students, parents, and church members must continue with the same courage and foresight as those leaders exemplified who fashioned the yesterdays of our state into our today. It is my hope that as we work together, each of us may develop a finer mind, a warmer heart, a sturdier body, a more adept hand, and a greater soul, thereby becoming a more wholesomely integrated person. Congratulations and best wishes to each of you. C. W. TARTER 'fr- Q n+p..,.-.....-.-e-mg..- W.. x QV Xx lg, SN ziwl-w.fw,,,f, ,aw 'W 5 - -3-1 s nv, . , ,.- ,.'
