Here we are in our senior year oT high school almosT ready To gracluaTe. lT seems ThaT only yesTerday we were careTully dressed by loving moThers and senT To school Tor The T1rsT Time. All oT us were a liT'Tle TrighTened and some oT The girls cried buT we grew To love our Teachers and class- maTes. ln This TirsT year oT school we learned To prinT draw color, read and aTTer ChrisTmas we learned To wriTe. We spenT many happy hours under The direcTion oT Miss EThyl Barron and Miss Thelma Norman and Mrs. McCall. We really sTruTTed when we were promoTed To The second grade ATTer all we were geTTing up in The world We concenTraTed on conducT spelling and wrlhng during This second year OT school A noT-ebook was kepT and in :T were such sTornes as BeTsy Ross and The making oT The T1rsT American Tlag Our second grade unsTrucTors were Mrs MaTT McCall and Mrs Garvin On enTerlng The Third grade we Took up mo new sublecTs geography and healTh As a general rule geography was liked by boTh boys and gurls and healTh proved mosT lnTeresT1ng To all oT us IT was during our Third year oT chool ThaT we began To give plays and every year long legged snaggle TooThed llTTle gurls were dressed as da1nTy Talrles and The boys porTrayed elves and gnomes Ah buT Those were The good old days All our worries were consTiTuTed in Three lilTle words reading rrhng and rlThmeT1c Our Teachers were Miss Brack and Miss Brock Every year aT The end of school we wenT on an all day picnic To The park ln The TourTh grade we had several Teachers some oT whom were Toylee McClmTon Marguer1Te Elan: en Sally Dunlap and Mr and Mrs Bell We were allowed To use The gymnasium and spenT many enloyable hours playing on The equnpmenT AT This pomT in our academic career we began our sTudy oT penmanshup Everyone enTered a conTesT an several membe s were awarded G egg Penmanshnp Pins We also began our sTud1es in music and arT Mrs Weldon Lindsey msTrucTed The music classes and Mrs Azll McCllnTock nnsTrucTed The arT classes ln The spring a Music Memory ConresT presided over by Mrs Lindsey was held in The music room oT The Grammar School Lamesa compeTed wiTh various oTher conmunlhes and Jams T'lamilTon oT our class won TlrsT place A PucTure Memory ConTesT was also held 1v1Th Jean SmiTh placing TnrsT division The malornTy oT The conTesTanTs were pupils oT The TourTh grade Do you remember The Tun on SamT Val 'uhne s Day when awkward boys w1Th changing voices and un ruly hair exchanged sweeT lnTTle verses wlTh Their TavorlTe girl Triends7 Yes There were quiTe a number oT budding romances ThaT year Ann Johnson and George l-larT John Leuenberger and OniTa Esmond Anne McGuire and Aubrey Bryan Cox Also Gene Trigg gave all The Teml nine hearTs a good work ouT Being a very enThus1asTlc class we gave many plays early in our school career Some OT Them were The Princess GeTs a KlTTv a playleT in which Jams l'lamilTon porTrayed The princess and Jimmie Aldridge was The man servanT and The Wizard oT Oz a playleT nn which Jean SmiTh porTrayed Alice and John Leuenberger We TelT capable oT real mlschueT aTTer having reached The sevenTh grade ThaT s why The room sounded like a bee hive when The Teacher was down The hall We had huge May TeTes every spring and one year we porTrayed The Race oT ATlanTa lT was a gor geous slghT To waTch The classes parade and dance as They decoraTed The May Poles The evenT which surpassed all oThe evenTs was graduahon IT meanT leaving The Grammar School and never going back There again Tor classes This reallzahon made The boys look sober and quleT and a Tew Tears Tell Trom The gurls eyes We shall never TorgeT ThaT T1rsT day In high school EveryThsng was reversed lnsTead oT The Teachers go Ing Trom room To room The pupils did The going and 1nsTead oT marching in long orderly lines everyone ran down The halls like a herd oT dumb animals Tnese congesTed halls only complicaTed maTTers You noT only had To worry abouT geTTing To The rlghT room on Time you had To worry abouT geTTmg There saTely 'There was one good Thing abouT lrlgh school IT wasn T run on The order OT a casTe sysTem as we had been lead To be lleve We musT admiT Though ThaT we walked many weary miles carrying seniors books As Tlsh we chose Norris Barron To be our presidenT and Tommy Allen as vice pres1denT Class TavorlTes were John RoberT ETh ridge and OnlTa Esmond Dan Terry lead us ou sophomore year and Norris Barron presided as vice presl denT The POSITION oT secreTary was alloTed To Nancy l-loll1ngsworTh Class Tavor1Tes oT Sophomore year were Marvin Wilson and Nancy l-loll1ngsworTh Ray Womack headed The Junior Class as presldenT and Norris Bar ron as vice presldenT SecreTary oT The class was Nancy l-lolllngsworTh and Ray Womack and Jimmie Lee CoTTen were our class Tavor1Tes OuTsTandlng evenTs of The year were The Junior Play lTs Tough To Be Rich by James C Parker which was really a huge success and The Junior Senior BanqueT To which we had looked Torward Tor so long Following The Junior Senior BanqueT was The Prom And now here we are seniors aT lasT We have Thoroughly enloyed every day OT our high school years All Those who graduaTed w1Th us Trom Grammar School have noT remained in our class Tor various reasons neverTheless we Teel ThaT we have an ouTsTand1ng class
