M in i m ii i i m i in M ii. Freshman Orientation Promotes Academic ยป Success Freshman Orientation began on August 22, 1987, and continued throughout the Fall Semester. Upon arriving on campus, all freshmen were assigned to a peer group directed by a faculty advisor and an up- perclassman. In no time, the freshmen had learned from their peer advisor the ins and outs of college life, from what professors to avoid to the best place in town for a delicious pizza. In a seminar setting, freshmen met on a regular basis during the Fall Semester with their advisors where they learned effective study skills, the importance of social in- teraction, and other matters pertaining to academic success. Beginning this year, all freshmen are el- igible to earn one hour ' s academic credit for participation in the orientation pro- gram. It is felt that by earning academic credit, freshmen will take orientation more seriously than in the past. The staff of the Student Life Office and Mrs. Susan Hudacek, Associate Professor of English, Director of Student Advising, were in charge of the orientation program. 30 Campus Life
