■HMHHHMmnZU Lambuth Observes Its 138th Commencement Dr. Hugh A. Latimer, Interim President, presented diplomas to 93 graduating seniors at Lambuth ' s 138th Annual Com- mencement Exercise on May 3, 1987, in Lambuth ' s Athletic Center. Mr. Hero F. David, the manager of engineering and de- velopment for Aarkus Oliefabrit Company in Copenhagen, Den- mark, delivered the commencement speech, Mr. David, a native of Khurja, India, who was a 1952 graduate of Lambuth and a past recipient of Lambuth ' s R.E. Womack Achievement Award, urged the graduating seniors to remember their Lambuth roots later in life. He stated, I personally owe a lot to Lambuth in giving me values. It gave me an all-around foun- dation . . . based on Christian faith . . . and the challenge to do my utmost. Mr. David encouraged the graduates to realize that they have a living foundation on which they will build through- out life. At the Baccalaureate service earlier that day, Bishop Ernest W. Newman, the Resident Bishop, Nashville Area, of the United Methodist Church, advised the graduates to become, lengthening shadows of their Alma Mater as they were sent out into the world armed with diplomats and a clean sense of values. Prior to the Baccalaureate service in the Chapel, all grad- uating seniors and their families were honored at the traditional President ' s Breakfast, held in the Colonial Room of the College Union. On the day before, the faculty honored graduating seniors with its traditional breakfast in the Kirk Dining Hall. Honor ' s Day Convocation Recognizes Outstanding Students On April 20, 1987, thirty outstanding students received awards for scholarship and leadership at the Honors ' Day Convocation held in the RE. Womack Chapel. The R.E. Womack Outstanding Senior Award, which is presented to the senior who, in the estimation of the faculty and the Student Senate, has been most loyal to the school and served it in the greatest capacity, was presented to John Little by Dean Mayo. Top academic honors went to Richard Wayne Clark and Susan Millikin, who were named class Marshals, rising seni- ors with the highest grade point averages. Those who re- ceived the title of alternate Marshal were Laura Leigh Womack and Timothy Wayne Ellis. Lambuth scholars were Angela Ward, Carolyn Welch, Sharon Poat, and Tracy Lea Sadlak. Eagle History Award — John Little; Luther L. Gobbel Freshman Citizenship Award — Dan Headrick; Freshman Mathematics Award — Roger A.
