Dr. Joe E. Pennel Challenges Audience At Opening Convocation Lambuth College began its official school year on Thurs- day, September 4, 1986, with the Administration and Faculty Procession and the assemblage of students, friends, and guests in the Richard E. Womack Memorial Ch apel. Among the special guests for the occasion were Methodist ministers throughout the West Tennessee Conference. The Procession entered the chapel as The Heavens Declare the Glory of God was played by Organist Jo Fleming. Dr. Wood K. Whetstone gave the Call to Worship followed by the congregational hymn Holy Spirit, Truth Divine. President Harry W. Gilmer gave the welcome and made introductions. Executive Vice President Charles Mayo recognized the Bicentennial Scholars. President of the Student Government Association, John Little, gave the Response for the students; Dr. Rodger Bates, the Response for the Faculty: Dr. Jack H. Henton, Response for the Church; Dr. Lloyd W. Ramer, the Morning Prayer; and Professor Arthur T. Tanner, A Litany of Praise. Under the direction of Professor Mar- cia Mittelstadt, the Lambuth Concert Choir sang an- thems. Dr. Joe E. Pennel, Jr., senior minister at Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville was the keynote speaker, using the topic Having Truth Without Pas- sion. The address was warmly received. Convocation closed with the traditional flag-raising.
