Annual Brunch Starts Graduation Activities On Saturday, May 20, 1978, pre-graduation activities included a brunch in honor of the seniors, which was sponsored by the faculty and staff in the Colonial Room. The class of 1929 sponsored a tea for the class of 1928. Members of the class were visited by their former instructors. Honors Presented To Members Of The Classes Of ' 28 And ' 78 In keeping with the traditional practices of commencement, Dean Walter H. Whybrew presented candidates for honorary degrees and 1928 graduates. Those receiving honorary degrees included Earl G. Hunt, Jr., Walter E. Mischke, Jr., Earl M. Ramer, Charles J. Reed, John W. Richardson, Jr., Robert H. Spain, and Harold E. Watkins. Members of the 1928 class who were presented 50th anniversary medallions included Cecil A. Baker, Mrs. Betty Carter, Mrs. Eliza Kennedy, John E. Malone, Mrs. Helen Threadgill, Herschel Walden, Mildred E. Watt, and Mrs. Faye Miles. President Wilder presented senior awards to Nancy Miller and Alan Sanders. Nancy was recognized for her perfect grade point average. Alan was given the R. E. Womack award for being the most outstanding senior. 27
