When the sun went down, the stars went out, the clouds swept in, the King had died. Above the city ' s gates a guard had stood, unhear- ing, as the churchbell tolled and never heard the news. CLUBS Does election lime bring out the campaign spirit in your blood? Do you enjoy about hearing of cultures in other lands? Do you have a special interest in biology or chemistry? Well, if the answer to any of these questions is yes, or if you have other interests, you can find fulfillment in one of the clubs on campus. Always we hear the cry, There ' s nothing to do. Well, if one is truly interested, there is a great deal to do, many people to meet, and a wealth of knowledge to be gained by joining one of the following campus organizations. STUDENT N mONAL EDUCMON AGSOCUmON Always striving to broaden the interests of capable students and provide a better un derstanding of the teach- ing profession, the SNEA seeks to provide opportunities for personal and professional growth. 72 The Circle K Club has contributed both to Lambuth and to our surrounding community through various service projects. Through its leadership training and character-building program the Circle K proves itself to be a valuable asset to its members. CIRCLED CLUB f JTK OTO AL club The International Club provides an atmosphere of international communication and idea-exchange among rep- resentatives of different cultures and lands. It attempts to have programs dealing with life in many countries, world affairs, languages and vital issues of concern to us today. It is attempting to become a place where a truly learning experience occurs. REPUBLICANS Beginning its second year on campus, this organization has been active in both local and national elections. Speakers such as Senator Brock and members of the National Committee have been brought to our campus by these people. With a growing membership, the Young Republicans hope to become an even more active group on campus. YOUN£ DEMOCRATS Slightly younger locally than other groups on cam- pus, the Young Democrats are certainly making up for lost time. They have hosted such speakers as Senator Albert Gore, who has been in Congress for many years. Each year they are growing and be- coming more active in many phases of Lambuth ' s development. 74 THE AMERICAN CHEMISTRY SOCIETY provides students an opportunity to discuss new discoveries in the field of chemistry. The students affiliated with the American Chemical Society find ever expanding horizons. THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF BIO- LOGICAL SCIEN- CES, a professional society for biologists, works to further the advancement of bio- logical sciences, to as- sist in such matters of common concern that can be dealt with ef- fectively by united ac- tion and to foster the relations of the biolog- ical sciences to other sciences, to arts and industries, and to the public good. 75 Women ' s Dormitory Councils from Sprague, Harris, and South Halls. DORMITORY COUNCILS Each dormitory chooses its own officers and each floor of every dormitory selects its representatives to the councils. Any is- sues concerning the welfare or the interests of any of the women dormitory students are handled by these groups. These girls make dormitory life more pleas- ant and provide an outlet for any complaints from the girls. 76 Men ' s Dormitory Councils of West and Epworth Halls. DORMITORY COUNCILS Each men ' s dormitory elects its own ex- ecutive council and members from each floor ere selected by the men on that floor. Dormitory life can be fun, but at times the dormitory councils must work hard to insure that all students are given relatively good living conditions. 77 Gwefo Casual Shots of Fraternities and Sororities Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority Alpha Xi Delta Sorority Phi Mu Sorority Sigma Kappa Sorority Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity Kappa Alpha Order Kappa Sigma Fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity Pages 80-85. This was not a winning year, but there were outstanding games. The Eagles came in second in the Mayor ' s Tournament. They were defeated by Union, a team that always does well in their conference. The margin of victory was very slight, however, and the blue team fought a good fight. Homecoming was a time that showed what the team could do with support from the fans. They lost by only 9 points to a team that aver- aged 50 points more a game than they did. If the Eagles had more support, they could and would do even better than they usually do. 129 - m m mw mm ' iWMWWIU UW| |j ) piWpi, l it,W(|i ,.L ■- tPWBBRw - 1 • A - L — niwr i ' in.; ?! However, the players here are veterans who have played before or who are trying out for the team. They with several others are practicing hard, vying for the positions to be filled by Coach Williams. They are from left to right: Phil Cox, Tom Hubbard, Dar- rell Reisert, and Cheairs Parks. 140 w! k ' MX unh 7 141 Intramurals are a very important part of campus life. Whether you be Kappa Sig, Sig Ep, Sigma Kappa Alpha Xi, or Dl, you have the opportunity to participate. During 1970 the younger generation was again in the middle of a great many controversies. The least of these was not the war in Vietnam. On October 15, 1969, many people wore black arm bands, pro- testing U. S. involvement in the war. Later, many Americans wore red, white, and blue arm bands express- ing their backing of President Nixon ' s Vietnam policy. All in all, this was our chief issue. Lambuth held a Day of Learning on Vietnam. During this period, debates and addresses by faculty and students were presented. Donna L. Love William A. Lucks Ross Luther Peter C. Lyons Gary R. We took a plan . . . developed it . . . revised it . . . modified it down to the last de- tail. Today, this plan is over 80% complete with a campus more than twice as large as when we launched our plan. Lambuth is growing to meet the needs of tomorrow with an ideal that will live forever. That ' s the way every year is I suppose. You make of it what you will. Well, what lies ahead in 1971, the year after that, and the year after that? You ' re the only one that can answer that question. You are the future. We all are. We can have wars or we can estab- lish peace; we can love one another or continue to hate. It ' s up to us. We ' ve been talking for some time now, about the things we hold dear - life, liberty, happiness. Now we must do something about it. In our quest for all that we cherish, we must keep one thing in mind — we must think positively. We have the knowledge to do a great deal. We must not be bitter toward the past; we must be optimistic. We must be active and constructive. As Robert Kennedy said, The work of our own hands, matched to reason and principle, will determine destiny.
