THE LANTERN 1963 LAMBUTH COLLEGE JACKSON, TENNESSEE Editor -- CAROL ANN CHANDLER Assistant Editor -- TED YOUNG Business Manager - - BILL MULLINS Published b : TAYLOR PUBLISHING COMPANY Dallas. Texas Lambuth is the experience of being Lambuth is the place we first know ourselves alone in relationship, in groups intellectually, emotionally spiritually Lambuth is the unfo lding of maturity an endless process of becoming aware of the world, of people of God of ourselves Lambuth is a Kaleidoscope of fragments of memories, of half -felt experiences of almost forgotten friends of almost begun acquaintances of almost realized personage Lambuth is a Kaleidoscope of orderly development of completed courses of whole joys of deep friendships of relationship to God of enemies of harmony above dissonance Lambuth is a Kaleidoscope of never constant images of enemies become friends of buildings begun and completed of engagements made and broken of confidences and betrayals of laughter: serious and light of apathy and commitment of change and stay Lambuth is a Kaleidoscope of community of people living with people of self-realization of escape of retribution and innocence of boredom of love: marriage of locked doors and closed lives of open minds and formless opinions of profundities of concentricitv Lambuth is the Kaleidoscope of being LANTERN 1963 LAMBUTH IS PEOPLE AND THE THINGS THEY DO TOGETHER . . . 4m jHBf 2g lIRin JR -hM In ■K JBf TnooH k i '  d v H 14 ' I 11 L J Bi If I H ? BUT THINGS HAVE MORE THAN ONE AS- PECT, MORE THAN ONE DEFINITION. THINGS ARE KALEIDOSCOPIC. WHETHER THEY BE PEOPLE, AT- TITUDES, BUILDINGS, OR SPIRIT, THEY ALWAYS HAVE SEVERAL ASPECTS, FEW OF WHICH ARE CON- STANT. LAMBUTH IS LIKE THAT. NO ONE DEFINI- TION OR DESCRIPTION IS ADEQUATE. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE ANNUALS: TO PRESENT THE AS- PECTS OF A SCHOOL. THIS ANNUAL WILL, WE HOPE, SHOW MOST OF THE ASPECTS OF LAMBUTH THAT CAN BE CAUGHT PHOTOGRAPHICALLY. WE HOPE IT WILL CONVEY MUCH OF THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTIAN ACADEMIC COMMUNITY WHICH IS LAM- BUTH. WE HOPE IT WILL SHOW YOU NOW, AND IN THE YEARS TO COME, THE EVER-CHANGING, NEV- ER-CONSTANT KALEIDOSCOPE: LAMBUTH COLLEGE. 1963. DR. JAMES E. HULL A.B., B.D., Ph.D. 10 To Dr. James E. Hull Dr. and Mrs. Hull with (from left) Alan, Ricky, and Tim. We, the graduating class of 1963, dedicate the LANTERN. Dr. Hull has been teaching at Lambuth for three years. During this time, his vitality, his in- tensity, and his high academic achievements have served to show that his ideals for students are the same as the ideals of the College for students. The rapid recognition of his abilities and interests by the Administration and student body are evidence of his dedication to the ideals of the College and of his concern for students as individuals. Dr. Hull also shows an understanding and ap- preciation of the contributions of the past to the present. He demonstrates an enlightened confi- dence in man ' s creativity through the power of God in his life. He is concerned to teach these insights and truths to his students: that they com- mit themselves to an adequate Christian faith. That Dr. Hull has succeeded is shown by the respect and appreciation given him by the student body. Aware of the past achievements and failures of Lambuth, but also aware of the potentialities of Lambuth for the future, Dr. Hull, living wholly in the present, is worthy of being one of the primary manipulators of the Kaleido- scope that is Lambuth..  ■■, f ' s£r.  ,v  % ft™ ■M .-.I ' %• Ifc AT ' • , y ' .• ' % y . • ,% . a •  ■-urn % ' i • Paths LeaAn ■ - AMOS W.
