In His Lab . . . CATION At His Desk . . . The 1960 LANTERN is dedicated— with much respect and admiration— to one who we feel knows of and plays a great part in the spirit of Lambuth College. In 1924 he was selected to be a member of the Lambuth faculty. Since that time, he has taken part in numerous activities and has served in various capacities of the college. He received his education from Iowa Wesleyan College, Iowa State University, and the University of Arkansas. Before coming to Lambuth he taught at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He takes an active part in his church, where he teaches a Sunday school class. Some of his hobbies are trees, gardening, nature trails, and corn breeding. His love for nature and the out-of-doors creates a warmth and kindness in him, which is reflected in his teaching. Lambuth has profited much from his abilities and support. And in hon- or of our love for him and our gratefulness to him, we dedicate this book to ... • MR. ARTHUR D. OXLEY IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Mary Rice 1886-1959 Mrs. Rice was a gentle lady who gave generously of her time and tal- ents to serve the students of Lambuth College. The extra sparkle she gave to our campus has been greatly missed during this year, and the remem- brance of her humility and humble smile is with us all. TO THE MEMORY OF . . . Thomas B. Moffatt, III 1938-1959 When a young man dies, something in all of us dies with him. When he is a young man like Tommy Moffatt, the loss is even more keenly felt. Tommy was always known on the Lambuth campus as a happy boy, one who smiled often and readily; and in all his dealings, he was known to have generosity and thoughtfulness. There is a warm spot in all our hearts for Tommy, and he will be greatly missed. tfflnl fMF % ..  £P 4 V | t 1 - ' - SfcSfc cjfc-: ; - ' MSBy f . . Humanities Social Studies Natural Sciences 15 Lambuth College offers the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Sci- ence. The major objective of the curriculum at Lambuth is to give to its students a well-rounded, liberal education. It attempts to do this by introducing its students to most of those major fields of interest which are included in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. This program of general education is required of all students who receive the bachelor ' s degree. 1 1 BIOLOGY ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 17 Lambuth is growing in all fields of its curriculum. One of its most rapidly growing fields is that of art, in which most interest has been shown by the students. At left, a student receives instruc- tions from her professor. Home Economics, a field of major interest at Lambuth, offers both a ma- jor and a minor. Some of the course subjects included are clothing, foods, table service, art, home management, and child development. Shown, at right, are two home eco- nomics majors in a sewing class. , - i . MB i 4 The program for elementary educa- tion majors is almost completely planned for them, being set up accord- ing to the standards which must be met for teachers. Shown, at left, is a student doing her practice teaching, a planned part of her elementary education program. 18 t 3 en THE STUDENTS l o H M 19 President-JIM MOORE Vice President-MURPHY ADKINS Secretary-DORIS JANE PARDUE Treasurer-CAROLYN McDANIEL 20 BRADY ADKINS BURGESS MURPHY ADKINS, B.S. This organization sponsors plays of merit throughout the year. This is the functioning group dedicated to the production of plays of high quality and worth. All those in Lambuth Theater are not actors; indeed some have not had an acting role in their career as Theater members. However, these people fulfill roles equally important as the actors. Make-up, production, costuming, lighting, and many other jobs are done by these members of the group. DELTA PSI OMEGA Cast Director: JOHN MINGUS Sub-Director: STAN JERNIGAN Secretary-Treasurer: GEORGIA BETH HENSON Delta Psi Omega is pledged to uphold the highest standards in the field of dramatic arts. Its members are chosen from those who have distinguished them- selves by their work in the Lambuth Theater. Only those of the highest merit are extended an invitation to join this honorary fraternity. It is not intended to take the place of the theater group, but rather, as students qualify, they are rewarded by election to this group. Direct participation in the production of plays in the area of acting constitutes an important part of the merit requirements for eligibility in the fraternity. However, not only acting, but directing, make up, lighting, set production, and play writing are also areas of considerable importance of which the fraternity takes note when choosing its members. The newly organized fraternity on this campus is a part of a national organiza- tion which has chapters on a great number of the large college campuses as well as on many of the smaller college campuses. The chapter is under the direction of Mrs. Wilma McCague, who is advisor and sponsor. 95 LAMBUTH THEATER THE CHILDREN ' S THEATER RUMPELSTILTSKIN The first play of the current season of the Children ' s Theater was Rumpelstiltskin.
