How short these years seem now that they are over. We have gained many things from college life — maturity, judgment, self-confidence. Many of our goals have been attained, a few forgotten, and some changed. College has been fun. Friendships which we formed here will make up a wonderful part of our lives. The days have been filled with activities, parties, laughter, tears and fellowship. We come to graduation time with elation at having completed an important task, and yet we are filled with regret at leaving Lambuth, our home for four happy years. § 16 Stepping into the Future Norman Orr — President Jerry Smith — Vice-President Lanelle Stewart — Secretary Russell Gallimore — Treasurer § 17 $• MARTHA SAULS LEITSCHUH . . . A very meaningful program has been planned for all who participate. Outstanding events of the con- vocation will be discussions on the afternoon of April 29, with na- tionally recognized representatives of industry, education, and reli- gion, as speakers. The feature of the evening program will be an address by Dr. D. Elton Trueblood, of Earlham College. The dedica- tionary address on Tuesday morn- ing, April 30, will be by Bishop William T. Watkins, of Louisville, Kentucky. Official representatives of in- stitution and learned societies, and special guests will compose the academic procession on Tuesday morning. We know that you will want to remember these dates in your cal- endar — April 29 and 30. o In three years between 1953 and 1956, schools in the United States had to enroll an extra million stu- dents of kindergarten age each season. Tentative plans are being made for a television program during Home Economics Week. Set in the small New Hampshire village of Grover ' s Corners, Our Town evokes a pic- ture of small town life at the turn of the century, when pleas- ures were simpler and life was generally less turbulent. In 1901, before movies and the radio had arrived on the enter- tainment scene, there was excite- ment in having an ice cream soda at the corner drug store. In one of the quietly charming scenes in Our Town, a high school boy and girl first discover that they are in love over a soda shared one afternoon after classes. Ford cars were just appearing on the streets of Grover ' s Corners at the turn of the century — and some of the residents could still remember when a dog could snooze in the middle of a street all after- noon unmolested.
