;2 ;7 u% JWS f i -v Almighty God, Fountain of all Wisdom, be with us, we pray Thee, in our work today. Endue all the teachers with a sense of their responsibility and with grace and strength for its fulfill- ment. Keep the students in health of mind and soul and body. Make them diligent in study; guard their inexperience, and save them through all temptation. Bless the patrons and alumna® of this school and enable us all, more and more each day, to advance in that knowledge which is eternal life. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Through the years he has shown the utmost interest in his students and has given guidance to many who have gone on, believing him to be the most unforgetable personality they have ever known. He has become a symbol of the ideals of Lambuth College. With the greatest of love, respect, and admiration, we present this annual to m an in C . C aale 9 •4 6 )§•■•■- srrom Jhe presidents rJ-Jedk Thanks to students, parents, preachers and laymen of the Memphis Conference, faculty, trustees, alumni, and other friends of Lambuth everywhere, the year 1955-1956 may be remembered for advancement, growth, and development. We gratefully take pride in what, through the cooperative efforts and sacrificial contributions of many, has been achieved. Investments made here, in the opinion of national educational leaders who have made careful studies of what has been done, have been wisely used, and it is their opinion and ours that our educational program is progressing along sound and fruitful lines. The growing prestige of Lambuth is reflected in many significant ways, not the least of which is by the fall ' s enrollment increase of over 35 per cent. It is to serve more students better that we Qre dedicated. It is my sincere hope that students and others who, by honest effort and diligent application to the business at hand, have earned the right to do so, may look back upon this year with great satisfaction and look ahead with increasing confidence and genuine joy in service. Assistant Editor BARTER PLAYERS TO GIVE SABRINA FAIR ON FEB. 8 By ANITA RICE There is a treat in store for those who attend the perfor- mance of Sabrina Fair enacted by the Barter Players from Abingdon, Virginia, on February 8, at Jackson High School. This play was written by a former Barter actor, Samuel Tay- lor, who since has given up the grease paint for his more lucrative typewriter. After leaving Barter Theatre, his first job as play reader and doctor kept him too busily occupied to write plays .of his own. The most successful example of his tampering was What A Life , which had a long and pro- fitable run on Broadway and evolved into The Aldrich Family of radio fame. After long stint in radio and television and the writing of The Happy Time, a big hit of the 195051 season, ca,me Sabrina Fair. It ran on Broadway for 302 perfor- mances. The Barter Theatre has an in- teresting and successful back- ground, its genesis dating back to the summer of 1932. Last year it brought Macbeth to Jackson. The Barter Theatre of Virgin- ia pledges itself to combat the evils that would destroy the cul- ture and enlightenment of the world by giving the best of its strength and devotion to the cause of truth, beauty, and the spiritual nourishment of the hu- man soul. Sabrina Fair is a delightful story of a Long Island girl who left home as a shy. reserved per- son, and returned, after a few years in Paris, as an entirely dif- ( Continued on Page 2) Spring Semester Brings Faculty Additions Lambuth will be fortunate enough to have two new faculty members to begin the new se- mester. At the present time Dean Ward is preparing four scripts for film strips on Problems of Spending and editing teaching plans f r. - a series of thirteen les- sons for the summer quarterly of Adult Bible Course. Dr. Charles M. Laymon serves as Editor of Adult Publications for the General Board of Edu- cation, ternity for two years and is chairman of the Special Events Committee. She plans to major in English and minor in Educa- tion. She would like to teach English in a junior or senior high school. After graduating from Lambuth, she plans to work on her master ' s degree and ob- tain her secondary and elemen- tary certificates to work with mentally retarded children. Cloria Fowkles, a member of the Freshman Class, Is the daugh- ter of Mrs. Florence Fowkles and the late Mr. Fowkles of Dyersburg, Tennessee. While in high school there, Gloria was a member of the Beta Club and the F. H. A. During her senior year she was chosen Miss D. H. S. and was elected as a delegate to Girl ' s State. Here at Lambuth she is pledging Omega Upsllon Lambda Sorority and is a mem- ber of the Annual Staff. Her plans for the future are Inde- finite, but she does plan to go Into the field of psychology. Kitty Richardson, also a fresh- man, is the daughter of Mrs. Mittie Richardson of 182 Wis- dom, Jackson. Tennessee. Kitty graduated from Jackson High School, where she played basket- ball for two years, was a member of the National Honor Society, Junior Classical League, Tri Hi and was active in many more clubs there. Since coming to Lambuth she is pledging Omega Upsilon Lambda, Sorority, has been chosen a member of the Special Events Committee, and is a member of F. T. A. and the choir. Her major may be in ele- mentary education. The coronation of the basket- ball queen and her court will precede the Bethel-Lambuth game February 3. Basketball Royalty Revealed Gail Boling To Reign As Queen By NETTIE JEAN JOHNSON Reigning over basketball festivities February 3, will be the lovely Lambuth girls below. The basketball team has chosen Miss Gail Boling as the 1956 Basketball Queen, and for her maids they have chosen Misses Patty Williams, Gloria Fowkles, and Kitty Richardson. Gail, a sophomore, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John O. Boling of Morris Chapel, Ten- nessee. She graduated from Morris Chapel High School as salutatorian of her classe. She was very active in high school being president of both her jun- ior and senior classes and serv- ing as cheerleader one year. Since coming to Lambuth she has been kept very busy. During her freshman year she became a member of Beta Sigma Alpha Sorority and is still an active member. She served as a maid in the basketball royalty last year and was a member of the SCA Council, Lantern Staff, and Music Club. This year Gail is serving as maid to Miss Lambuth and as royalty for Sigma Alpha Fraternity. She is a member of the choir for the second year, and she is also secretary for SCA Council, a member of the Spec- ial Events Committee, and a ; member of F. T. A. Gail plans to major in Elementary Educa- tion and is now working on her teacher ' s certificate, which she will use as a medium to receive experience in the teaching pro- fession before continuing with her post-graduate work at Sear- ritt College in Nashville. After this, Gail plans to do home mis- sion work in the educational field. Patty Williams, also a sopho- more here, is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Roy Williams of Memphis, Tennessee. Patty, Lam- buth ' s own Miss Tennessee, will be serving as basketball royalty for the second consecutive year. Among her many activities on the campus are membership in F. T. A., the Dramatics Club, and Omega Upsilon Lambda Sorority. She has served as cheerleader and queen for Si.u ' ma Alpha Fra- SEASON NEARS END At present the Lambuth Eagles have won six games and lost eight. They have played much better than this record indicates, however. All the games have been fairly close with the exception of the C. B. C. game. The boys have played well, as is seen by the scoring of Richard Fly, who has a 22 point average per game. Close behind him is Jerry Pate with a 17 point average. One of the Eagles ' best games was against Bethel, as the Eagles waltzed off with a 111-98 victory. The boys were on their toes all the wa y, and with the scoring of Fly and Pate and the rebound- ing of Freeman, the Eagles won. The strange part of the Eagles ' victories Is that they defeat teams that beat other colleges yet when they play those col- leges, they lose to them. For ex- ample, they beat Bethel and Bet- hel beat U. T. M. B. yet U. T. M. B. defeated the Eagles. But the season is not over yet, and we feel confident that the Eagles will finish the season with a winning record. A big asset to them would be a large number ot the student body attending all the home games. Come out, won ' t you ? CHORUS Dear Lambuth, we hold you deep in our hearts, Dear Lambuth, you taught us the way, And tho future years intervene We ' ll dream of this wonderful day. Although far from your campus we wander, And strange flags in the skies be unfurled Memories cause our heart to grow fonder Of the dearest old school in the world. Always honor and glory you brought us Nor will we to that trust be untrue, We ' ll remember the faith that you taught us And bring honor and glory to you. ■ 6f I 1 8 }§►•■ iO ICO ICVJ | = CO iCO = 00 ICO
