Luther L. Gobbel, Ph.d. J rom Jhe j ' resident J oUesk Lambuth is alive and growing. A hardy plant rooted deep in West Tennessee soil and in the affections of students, alumni, and friends, it faces the future in confidence. One of its assets is its realization of need to grow a bit faster and to produce more abundant fruit. Its success in doing so is guaranteed in the measure in which it receives nurture and nourishment from those who own it and enjoy its fruitage, specifically the Memphis Conference and the student body, both of which are manifesting loyal and determined support. The year 1952-53 will stand out in Lambuth ' s history as epochal. The privilege of entering into Lam- buth ' s rich heritage and sharing in its dev elopment is matched by a commitment to give my best to help make it increasingly worthy of the young men and young women who are its present and future students and of the great Memphis Conference. Dedi ti( icauon The year 1952-53 witnessed the retirement of the man who had been the compass which held Lam- buth on its course throughout its most trying years. To him Lambuth owes much ; his spirit has so inter- mingled with Lambuth ' s that it is difficult to distinguish between the two. We are privileged to dedicate this year ' s Lantern to a gentleman, a friend, a scholar, but above all a truly devoted Christian —
