JSOQQQQQQBQQQQQBE Luther L. Gobbel Library 1 LAMBUTH COLLEGE Jackson, Tennessee U Q I B I Presented by 1 Dr. Marvin Eagle 3HOQQOBQE3QSOOQSE3E •;; ' The inspiration for Lambuth and the LANTERN came of that of which dreams are made. The two combined a dream to carry on the work that others have started, who twenty-six years ago transformed a grim college into a bower of green verdure to which the students came to make the college famed - - - But the inspiration is of little value if it is not carried into realization, and we were fortunate to enlist the deep interest and sympathetic cooperation of the student body for what they may see in this book - - - And, incidentally, it gave us a wonderful opportunity to follow and carry out the injunction of our former staff. We hope you will receive as much pleasure looking through the 1950 LANTERN as we, the staff, have enjoyed preparing it. The EDITOR 3734 Luther L Gobbel Library Lambuth College Jackson, Tennessee 38304 ■: ' % C . . ri ' DedicatiUut - By his genial personality, he has endeared himself in the heart of us all. He has established himself as a symbol of the things for which Lambuth stands and proved himself a sincere friend to each of the students. Through his profound love for music, his contribution toward its growth and appreciation on the campus is unsurpassed. To a gentleman of the highest type, we the Lantern Staff of 1950, affectionately dedicate this volume to Professor Barney M. Thompson. - resident Richard E. Womack B.A., M.A., LL.D. Institutions of learning, like individuals, should always feel a sort of divine discontent; they should never rest on past achievements, nor be content to be mediocre. The progress of Lambuth College through the years has been gratifying to us all. It has increased greatly in its physical assets. Its teaching staff has been strengthened. Its influence has extended far beyond the bounds of its supporting conference. But we are not satisfied. No matter how good Lambuth is, it can be better. And you and I can make it better. During this year we have all worked together. But let us not be satisfied with what we have done. The future holds great things in store for Lambuth and for us. Like the Apostle Paul, let us press on toward the goal. Richard E. Womack £ v vwmm sak pi. , jte W «MM . 1 ' ••j n I sraift ■-,: % ' ' % • • '  ' «. Through his admirable personality and ability to carry out the business affairs of the college, he has gained the confidence of the Administration and students. We feel that the college made a significant step in its selection of Mr. Short to fill the newly created office of Vice-President. B. A. Short Vice-President Miss Helen Womack Registrar Miss Helen Womack has won the admiration of all the students on the campus through her cheerfulness, patience, and understanding. During her years at Lambuth she has proved her- self not only a representative of the administration, but an enthusiastic participant in all student activities. Never too busy to help the students with kind and helpful guidance, she has been an inspiration to many. We feel that Miss Womack represents the true Lambuth spirit and is an invaluable asset to the College. As a historian, philosopher, sportsman, Dean Eagle has con- stantly shown his vitality, interest and kindness toward others. Always ready to help students with their problems, Dean Eagle has not only been a great teacher, but a real friend to all those who have come and gone since the founding of the College. Most of the class ' s seventy-five members have done their entire four years work in Lambuth. It is with deepest feelings and kindest thought of the Alma Mater that these Seniors leave the halls of Lambuth with their lives dedi- cated to service. Wherever they go, whatever they do, we are sure that the ideals of life imparted to them will remain ever with them and always hold high the name of our institution. Roy D. Williams, Jr., B.S. He has set a precedent as President of the Student Body because of his unequalled efficiency at gaining whole- hearted cooperation with the Administration and living up to the Lambuth idea and loyalties. Almost perfect response on Homecoming Day was one of the greatest single achievements of the Williams-May Administration. But perhaps the greatest was the establishment and maintenance of school spirit on a high plane. Vice-President Jack May Vice-President Jack May has proved an able co-worker and his guidance and efficiency as a student body official helped to make this year ' s administration the success that is proved by looking back over the year. He presided ably over a cooperative student council. The revision of the consti- tution and the establishment of a new point system were the most outstanding and constructive pieces of legislation. Vice- President Jack May has carved for himself and for us, a place in the annals of our College. Judicial Committee The Judicial Committee is the Supreme Court of the Lambuth College Student Body pre- sided over by Bill Yandell as Chief Justice. This body interprets laws, holds elections, and hears cases regarding breach of student regulations. A large share of the success of any school year is due to the sincere efforts of the Judicial Committee. Bill Evans, Nell Evans, Bill Yandell, Marjorie Garrett, Rosalyn Heaberg. Student Council Our Student Coun- cil, composed of four representatives from each Class and guided by Vice - President May, has proved its loyalty and leadership in performing the many duties entrusted to them. As the Con- gress of the Lambuth College Student Body, it makes decisions con- cerning the policies and actions of the Student Body. 1st Row: Mary Helen Davis, Laura Frances Ray, Carolyn Pearigen, Lou Yancy, Alystinf. Mary Emma Steadman, were greatly assisted by their cooperative staffs this year in the preparation of your Lantern. It ' s a lot of fun, this working on an annual staff, but a great amount of hard work. Just ask anyone who visited the Lantern room long enough to get entangled in one of the many tasks to be performed. We cut copy, mounted pictures and debated continually about any and everything. If this Lantern brings pleasant memories to you this year and in the years to come, it will have accomplished its main purpose.
