i I w? 3A o v o V i Mubuth Cc - ra! DEDICATION ARTHUR D. OXLEY To a man of unusual wit, congenial personality, warm heart, and ready ear for students ' problems, we, the staff, dedicate the 1947 LANTERN. LD293£ l 347 ' r: V w VAX. z7 U R. E. WOMACK B.A., M.A., LL.D. From the President ' s Desk The year 1947 should prove to be one of the most significant years in the life of Lambuth College. It is expected that during this year the campaign for $525,000 will move to a successful conclusion. To be sure, not all the money will come into the treasury during this time, but it is believed that the entire amount will be covered in cash and good subscriptions during the year. Plans for the gymnasium are now being prepared by the architects and construction should begin in the spring. As pledges are paid, approximately two-fifths of the money will be set apart for buildings and three-fifths for endowment. In this year the college has enrolled approximately 350 students, by far the largest number in the history of the institution. The morale of the faculty and students is very high, and this is reflected in the fine quality of work that is being done. All in all, 1947 is the happiest and best of the twenty-three years I have been privileged to serve as Lambuth ' s president. I am grateful to all the students and other friends who have helped to make this true. Richard E. Womack The Deans MARVIN E.
