Opera Workshop Presents Twin-Bill The Opera Workshop presented two short operas this year. The first was Sister Angelican by Puccini, The second, in a lighter vein, was '4The Enchanted Canary written by Noel Stevens of the University of Tampa, Fla. The composer attended one performance and was well-pleased with Lamar's production. Sister Angelicai' is a tragic opera which takes place in a convent in the latter part of the 17th Century. The Enchanted Canary, based on a childrenis fairy tale, was performed for only the second time. Both operas were sung in English and were fully staged with costumes and orchestral accompaniment. 'W . A QQ 99 Dirty Work at the Crossroads 'cDirty Work at the Crossroads, or Tempted, Tried and Truef' an old-time Cay Nineties melodrama, was the first production of the Spring semester for the Cardinal Theatre. The play was com- plete with villain and traditional railroad tracks, to which the heroine was tied, and the audience was encouraged to cheer the ugood guysn and hiss and boo the villain Cast for the produc- tion included Carolyn Denmark, as Nellie Lovelace, the heroine, Tom Higgins, Adam Oakhartf' the hero, Terry Clotiaux, NlVlunro Murgatroydf' the villain, Charles LaBorde, Mookie Magugginsf' the good-natured country bumpking Ann Fowler, Mrs, Upson Asterbiltgv Darla Galloway, Leonie Asterbiltf' one of the heroines, Kathy McCauley, '4Little Nellgi' Lalan lVIcAlister, Fleur- ette, the French maid, Judy Campbell, Widow Lovelacegv and Rebecca Allard, Ida Rhinegoldf' the other woman.
