MJ C 'f 4 t fp m X l-si' Although compiling its worst dual match season record in history, the Cardinal tennis team fin- ished second in the Southland Conference title race behind powerful Trinity University. No Lamar Tech players reached the SLC finals, but John Verde advanced to the singles quarterfinals before being defeated. The Cardinals came on strong at the end of the season, winning four of their last seven matches for a 5-11 record. Cardinal golfers won their sixth consecutive Southland Conference golf championship at the SLC meet in San Antonio. The Cardinals won in 876 strokes to their nearest rival, Trinity University's 909. Jimmy Singletary was medalist for the tournament. In addition to Singletaryds three-under par 213, Dewain McNabb was second with a 2143 ,lim Bishop fourth, 221g Mike Allen, fifth, 2223 Rickey Goerges, seventh, 2233 and Viviano Villarreal, eighth, 227. Four members of Coach Dan Rogas' team were invited to play in the NCAA University Division Toumament in Colorado Springs, Colo. In 1969, the Cardinals competed in the University Division for the first time. In 1967 and 1968, they won hack-to-back NCAA College Division Tourna- ments.
