Jack Martin Named SLC Coach of Year ,lack Martin, head basketball coach at Lamar Tech for 18 years, was named Southland Con- ference Coach of the Year in a poll of SLC coaches and sports information directors. The Cardinals had an impressive 20-4 won-lost record for the year, using the same players who had posted an 8-17 record in 1967-68. It was also Martin's best season record and during it, he marked the 300th victory of his coaching career. He attributed much of his success to assistant coach Billy Tubbs who was able to devote full-time to the varsity this year, turning over Freshman coaching duties to Randy Mc- Collum. Martin also noted the improved play of Wayne Moore and other members of the team for the superb record.
