LAMAR TECH: 100, PAN AMERICAN: 84 Earl Dow scored 30 points and Kenny Haynes chipped in 20 tallies to give Lamar Tech a well- earned 100-84 triumph over tough Pan American College in McDonald Gymnasium. Lamar Tech blew a 19-point lead and a 12-point bulge before snapping a 62-62 deadlock midway of the final half to record its 14-th consecutive victory. LAMAR TECH: 85, ABILENE CHRISTIAN: 72 The Cardinals chalked up their first win ever in Abilene and their 15th victory in a row in 1968-69 by beating stubborn Abilene Christian College 85-72 in a Southland Conference game. Brilliant Earl Dow again led the Redbirds with 28 points and Phil Endicott chipped in 17 tallies as Lamar Tech pushed its league record to three wins and no losses. LAMAR TECH: 71, TEXAS-ARLINGTON: 76 Hot-shooting University of Texas at Arlington gunned down Lamar Tech's marvelous winning streak with a stunning 76-71 upset victory over the Cardinals in Arlington. The Rebels hit 50 per cent of their field goal attempts and Lamar Tech was miserably cold in hitting just 37 per cent. Earl Dow again led the Cardinals with 26 points. LAMAR TECH: 93, TRINITY UNIVERSITY: 92 Sophomore guard Tommy Dreessen calmly dropped in two free throws in the last five seconds to give Lamar Tech a bone-chilling 93-92 over- time victory over Trinity University's Tigers in a crucial Southland Conference battle. It was another thriller as the Cardinals overcame a six-point deficit in the final two minutes to send the contest into overtime. Another capacity crowd of 4,200 and a closed circuit audience watched Earl Dow put on a superb exhibition by scoring 35 points. Jim Nicholson fires a jump shot against the Northwest Mis- souri Bearcats trightl. 20th, 11th, 5th in AP Poll Then NUMBER ONE' LAMAR TECH: 84-, WEST FLORIDA: 76 Despite a let-down from two torrid weeks of action, Lamar Tech protected its No. 1 ranking in the nation by beating fired-up University of West Florida 84-76 in McDonald Gymnasium with some accurate free throw shooting. The Cardinals cashed in 28 of 32 charity shots to run their record to 17-1 for the season. Earl Dow led the Redbirds with 21 points. LAMAR TECH: 69, TRINITY UNIVERSITY: 83 Another tremendous comeback bid by Lamar Tech fizzled in the final two minutes of play and Trinity University managed to whip the Cardinals 83-69 in the showdown for the Southland Con- ference championship in San Antonio. Lamar Tech had trailed 61-52 before a super rally pushed the Cardinals ahead 67-65. But the Cardinals suddenly went cold again and Trinity scored 14- straight points to capture the triumph. Earl Dow Receives AP and Look Honors Several major honors were accorded to Lamar Tech's Earl Dow at the close of his college career. He was selected as a member of the Associated Press Little All-America third teamg Look Magazine-U.S. Basketball Writers Association District 6 teamg and was chosen to play on the West team in the East-West All-American game in Memphis, Tenn. Dow scored 11 points in the game, playing with such college stars as UCLA's Lew Alcindor. Dow set several Lamar Tech records including most total points in a season: 560g most field goals in one season: 235g most field goal attempts in a game: 40. He averaged 23.3 points per game and shot 44 per cent from the floor. Dow's almost unbelievable twisting, hanging in mid- air shooting style faked out- many of the best among college players as well as amazing the fans. LAMAR TECH: 74 SOUTHWESTERN LOUISIANA: 85 Superb guard Marvin Winkler scored 40 points to lead University of Southwestern Louisiana to an 85-74 upset win over a slumping Lamar Tech team in McDonald Gym. The Cardinals simply could not rally their forces for another outstanding club and lost their second game in a row. Earl Dow was the leading scorer for Lamar Tech with 21 points. LAMAR TECH: 71 UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON: 95 University of 'Houston got sweet revenge on Lamar Tech as the fired-up Cougars swamped the cold-shooting Cardinals 95-71 in Houston. Lamar Tech canned only 36 per cent of its field goals. The Cardinals had whittled a 25-point first half deficit to only nine points midway of the second half before running out of steam. Earl Dow had 23 points.
