Big Mo, Wayne Moore 1353 gets the tip in a jump-ball with Tulsa. LAMAR TECH: 87, TEXAS-ARLINGTON: 67 Lamar Tech opened the Southland Conference championship race by thrashing University of Texas at Arlington 87-67 in McDonald Gym. thanks to a near perfect first half performance. The win was the 11th in a row for the Big Red and put them within one of tying the school record. Earl Dow was the leading scorer with 21 points, but it was Wayne Moore, who got 11 points and 15 rebounds, who staked Lamar to a 4-7-29 bulge at intermission. LAMAR TECH: 84, ARKANSAS STATE: 81 Coming from behind in the final 10 minutes, Lamar Tech clipped tough Arkansas State Uni- versity 84-81 in Jonesboro, Ark., to tie the all- time school record of 12 consecutive victories. Phil Endicott pumped in 23 points and Earl Dow con- nected for 16 points as the Cardinals overcame a 62-50 deficit. The triumph also pushed the Car- dinals' Southland Conference record to 2-O.

NORTHWEST MISSOURI: 65 Bogged down by the heavy schedule of five games in seven nights, Lamar Tech closed out its pre-holiday slate with a listless 76-65 decision over visiting Northwest Missouri State. Guard Kenny Haynes led the Redbirds with 17 tallies, while Phil Endicott hit 16 points. Big Wayne Moore grabbed 15 rebounds, and Lamar Tech had a great 9-0 record. Cards Finally Defeat UI-I s W ' :bib Earl Dow 1233 contributes points in the Cardinals stunning 71-65 win over the University of Houston LAMAR TECH: 71 UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON: 65 Hollywood script writers couldn't have de- signed a better setting and conclusion than the production put on January'13 in McDonald Gymnasium when Lamar Tech upset almighty University of Houston 71-65 in a memorable contest that went into overtime. The victory was a stirring come-from-be- hind effort as Lamar Tech set a new school record with its 13th straight win. The win was also the first ever over Houston in 11 meet- ings and the Cougars had been the nation's No. 1 ranked team in 1967-68. Sheer bedlam rocked cramped McDonald Gym from floor to rafter as super'cool Earl Dow and Kenny Haynes scored 12 of Lamar Tech's final 14 points in the last seven minutes to send the game into overtime after the Car- dinals had trailed 56-4-4. With 4-,200 screaming partisans on their feet in the arena and another 1,000 watching on closed circuit television, Dow and Haynes scored four of five baskets in the overtime period to give Lamar Tech its most precious athletic conquest in history. 1
