Basketball Lamar Tech compiled its finest basketball record in the his tory of the college during the 1968-69 season with a 20-4 won lost record. The Cardinals held a 15-0 record at one poin before falling to the University of Texas at Arlington. Thi fine undefeated record brought national acclaim to the Car dinals with feature stories about the team in Sports Illustrated,' The Sporting News, the wire services, and leading newspaperl across the nation. Considered a major college by the Unitet Press International poll, and a small college in the Associate: Press poll, the Cardinals were passed up for a post-season tournament berth. The 1968-69 season also saw closed-circui television used for the first time at several Lamar Tech homt games. LAMAR STATE COLLEGE BASKETBALL SCHEDULE 11968-69l The fantastic Earl Dow f23l. LAMAR TECH: 65, PEPPERDINE COLLEGE: 64 Trailing by as many as 11 points early in the second half, Lamar Tech rallied behind the gallant play of Earl Dow and ,lim Nicholson to nip Pepper- dine College of Los Angeles, Calif., 65-64 in the 1968-69 opener in McDonald Gymnasium.
