'Y 1 in Lamar Tech: 14 ACC: 38 Abilene Christian College's sophomore quarterback Jim Lindsey passed, ran and directed the Wildcats to a 38-14 walloping of Lamar Tech in Cardinal Stadium in the Redbirds' first Southland Conference game of the season. With ACC dominating the game, helped by Lamar Tech fumbles, the Cardinals finally got some offense rolling mid-way in the third quarter. Bobby Mc- Dowell directed the Card offense with thrusts by Ronnie Gehauer, Kenny Montgomery, Henry King and Patrick Gibbs, as King banged in for the score on fourth down. A McDowell to Gibbs pass added the extra points to make the score 22-8. An ACC field goal raised the score and on a spectacular play, Lamar's McDowell fired to Gebauer who loped in for the score. The conversion try was no good. A few minutes later, the Wildcats tacked on 13 points, leaving the final score at 38-14. V' ASQ, Lamar Tech: 14- USL: 20 The Lamar Tech Cardinals had win on their minds as they set out to upset the University of South- western Louisiana Bulldogs. The Cards matched touch- downs with their opponent, but- Ragin' Cajun Boy Pendergraft booted two field goals that turned the tide of the game. Tech scored in the first quarter on a pass from Bobby McDowell to Ronnie Cebauer. The TD ended a 65-yard drive in 12 plays. The second Tech touchdown was the result of a 53 yard, seven play strong offensive attack by the Cards. .lim Jackson went over from the one yard line to give Lamar its last score of the encounter. Even with USL's two field goals, Lamar almost made a comeback. The Redbirds drove to the Cajun one in the fourth period, but a strong USL defensive unit held the score at 20-14. Bruising defensive halfback Bennie Lansford evades staunch ACC defense rack up overland yards on a pass interception. I Lf,-.... '. A i' Lamar Tech: 17 Arkansas State: The Lamar Tech Cardinals suffered their worst defeat the season at the hands of the Arkansas State Univer Indians, 48-17. Tech led the entire first quarter, 10-0. 'I touchdown was made on a pass from quarterbz Jim Jackson to wingback Patrick Gibbs. The scoreboard once more as freshman Terry Thompson booted a 32-ya field goal. Thompson also converted after the tout down. After the Indians had scored enough to lead by points, Lamar decided to narrow the score. A pass fre Bobby McDowell to end Ronnie Gebauer climaxed an yard drive. The tough Indian defense held Tech to 36 ya: rushing while Lamar running backs were dropped I3 tin in the Southland Conference game. Lamar Tech: 20 Trinity University: 2 University Tigers, 24-20. The Cards scored first as quar back Lloyd Ricketson went over from the one, endin 63 yard drive. Terry Thompson booted the extra po Freshman tailback Doug Carter sparked the drive runs of 31 and 14- yards in the Southland Confere contest. The second Tech TD came on a 24 yard run by Rot Fontno. Late in the first half, Thompson kicked a 36 y field goal to increase the lead, 17-IO. The last Card sc came on a 27 yard field goal by Thompson. The winn touchdown by the Tigers came on a fourth down gam with a pass from Lionel Garza to end John Howard Lamar Tech remained luckless as they fell to the Trir M pass that traveled 63 yards to paydirt. 7
