Dr. Richard W. Setzer was a gifted man. It was completely natural for him to advance from the classroom to the Presidency of the college. His attributes were endless-a sharp, ready witg a friendly smile, a handshake for everyoneg a brilliant, keenly- honed mindg a genuine interest in other people. Dr. Setzer toiled tirelessly to keep himself physically fit and mentally efficient. He loved Lamar and every student and em- ployee that made up this vast complex of humanity. His spur-of- the-moment decisions were not unexpected, like popping into dining halls and lounges to discuss in a completely informal manner any- thing the student had on his mind. Pulling pranks and practical stunts and reflecting great pleasure with a twinkle of the eyes were his methods of helping people shake off pressures and frustrations and enjoy a laugh at themselves. It is impossible to say what the loss of this dynamic leader has meant and will mean to the college. Building plans, curriculum progress, administrative decisions and general improvement in the pulse of the campus were among his contributions. The list of his accomplishments is overwhelming. Lamar lost a dear friend whose marks, accumulated in less than two years as its President, will be a monument forever. Dr. Setzer addresses a Commencement audience Cleft, abovei.
