A i Tenn: Champions come and go in Lone Star Conference sports circles, but the Cardinals seem destined to remain on top in tennis. Dr. Lewis M. Hilleyis netters swept to their eleventh consecutive conference title in 1962 and upped their con- secutive undefeated match play string to 56 wins. A new trophy was added to the long array of silverware the Redbirds have collected over the years, as Tech advanced to the NCAA College Division regional tournament after winning the LSC toga. Veteran john Maloney defeated teammate Al Driscole in an all-Lamar Tech finals in that tournament, 2-6, 9-7, 6-l, to capture the NCAA singles championship while Maloney and Tim Heckler won by de- fault over Driseole and team captain Rollin Spengler to capture the doubles crown. Leg cramps forced Driseole out of the doubles play. It was a satisfying season for the Cardinal team as they defeated some of the most formidable net powers in the Members of the 1962 Lctmctr Tech Tennis tecun ore, lfneelinq, wt t, Rowstorne.
