Lamar Remains Undefeated in LSC Play 3 Lamar blasted the Texas A8cI javelinas 110-74 at McDonald Gym to remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play. James Barrum led the Cardinals with 30 points. At halftime, the Redbirds led 47-38. Dur- ing the final 20 minutes, it was all Lamar Tech as the Cards swamped the javelinas. In a game designed to give everyone gray hair, Lamar Tech defeated East Texas State on the Lions' home court, 83-82, in three overtimes. East Texas led 31-28 at halftime, James Barrum tied up the game 69-69 with five seconds left in regulation play. Lamar worked carefully and led in the first overtime 71-69, but was tied up 71-71 as the period ended. Again working deliberately in the second overtime, it was 3:02 before Richard Smith drove in for a layup to send the Cards ahead. Connecting on free throws, the Lions sent the game into a third and final overtime with the score knotted at 75-75. The Lions grabbed the ball to open the final overtime, but Lamar went on to pull the game out, 83-82. Four records fell as Lamar Tech smashed the Sam Houston State Bearkats 128-76 at McDonald Gym. The Cardinals bettered the all- time Lamar scoring record for one game and the all-time McDonald Gym and all-time LSC records for one-game output. The eleventh consecutive win coupled with nine straight at the close of 1960-61 season, ran the Redbirds consecutive win string to 20 in the conference, another record. James Barrum with 23 points, Richard Smith and Wesley Newman with 21 led the Cardinals. Lamar led 67-29 at half- time and literally ran the Bearkats off the floor. Arkansas State Nips Lamar in NCAA Regional Lamar Tech was paired with Arkansas State College after receiving and accepting an invitation to participate in the NCAA college division south- west regional basketball playoffs.
