E6 'Hp' vf ci? 45' Members of the 1960 Colf team were Danny Mason, Alvin Odom, Chuck Palmer, Jerry Scott, Bill Willis, james Wright and Bobby Bluhm. GOLF CHA PIO Cardinal golfers latched onto two big prizes-the Lone Star Conference and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics CNAIAD crowns-but missed out on a third. Lamar Tech finished in a disappointing tie for 24th in the Bird's inaugural bidi for the National Collegiate Athletic Association CNCAAD toga at Colorado Springs, Colo. The 1960 campaign saw LT get back on the winning trail after being sidetracked in 1959. The Redbirds won their seventh LSC title and fourth NAIA championship. They also won the Beaumont Enterprise Tournament and the Stephen F. Austin Tournament while placing second in the Lake Charles Invitational and fourth in the Univer- sity of Miami Invitational. In dual matches, the Cards broke even in four, losing to Texas A8rM, splitting with McNeese State and beating Loyola University. It perhaps was poetic justice when the Cardinals edged Stephen F. Austin by a single stroke-594-593-to win the LSC diadem. The previous year, SFA had nudged Lamar Tech by the same margin to cop the crown. The Redbirds' Alvin Odom was medalist in the Lone Star meet. Another member of the LT team, sophomore james Wright, snared the championship in the Bayou Din Country Club Tournament. Wright also was the lone Card linkster to qualify for the NCAA championships but bowed out in the opening round. Other Tech shotmakers lettering were seniors Bobby Bluhm and jerry Scott, junior Danny Mason, sophomores Chuck Palmer and Bill Willis. Odom is a junior.
