STUDENT DESIGNS DREAM HOUSE Lamar's students are fortunate to have an industrial arts program that will equip them for a possible future career or hobby. Students who enjoy creating with their hands may take wood shop or metal shop, where useful home products are made. For those interested in the fields of engineering and architecture, mechanical, architectural. and machine drawing are offered. In mechanical drawing boys design a project of special in- terest to them. and then build an actual scale model of it. The boys are also instructed in retail buying, which teaches them to evaluate correctly and recognize top quality materials. After having received an introduction to the phases of engineering and architecture, the boys are thus prepared to begin a more intensive study of a special field in college.

COULD IT BE A FLAT TIRE ? Students interested in the correct handling of cars. in judging distances and estimating speeds, and in learn- ing the safety rules and regulations of driving participated this year in a six-weeks' course of instructed driving and observations. In heavy down town traffic, on the many freeways. and in the residential areas the students, divided into groups of four, took the wheel while they shared the brake with their instructor in the dual-con- trolled car. All the students kept their eyes opened for rare circumstances and analyzed those situations as to what was done, why it was done, and how it could have been improved. Among the benefits to be gained from this course are a reduction of insurance rates. a Texas Drive-r's License, and an appreciation of the practice of safe and courteous driving. . rccy X A i -ls.-
