ur Directory . . The directors of a production have a job which demands greatly diversified skills. Ability to lead and to generate enthusiasm is essential, but a will- ingness to work along together with subordinates and not to take the role of the sidelines-overseer is the truest mark of the good executive. These qualities are found in abundance in our adminis- trators. Here at our own school we hnd a group of outstanding and capable directors. Our Prin- cipal, Mr. W1'ight, and his able assistant, Mr. Madden, are always helpful and interested in the school. In addition, the ofhcers of our Parent- Teacher Association and the Lamar Activities Club are also eager and willing to help and guide us. It is through their untiring efforts, careful plan- ning, and extreme administrative skill that we have gained so many advantages, privileges, and ex- ceptionally fme facilities. A strong, forceful. and enthusiastic directive stafl' is the backbone of any production, and with such an outstanding one, we can attain nothing less than success. PRINCIPAL J. H. WRIGHT Mr. Madden, our Assistant Principal, contributes immeasurably to the smooth running of the school. His duties encompass a wide field, but his skills and talents are even more varied. An evidence of his remarkable personality is the fact that although he is in charge of discipline, which is no pleasant task, he is admired and trusted by all students. Then too, he is on hand to consult with and help Mr. Wright. Truly, friendly Mr. Madden is indispensable, and is a much loved and respected figure in Lamarls halls. He is one of the guiding and influencing factors which will be remembered by all for many years to come. MR. jesse MADDE A.v.fi.tta2zt Principa n u

Fame and beauty however, are not, in themselves, enough to assure the success and high standing of the sehool. In addition, there is an intangible 'gsomc-thing which, although hard to define or pin down, is much more evident in its absence. Perhaps, it is just school spirit, but at Lamar, there seems to be a feeling much broader and richer than the usual sense of that term implies. This is evident in the halls, in classroom discussions, and in the luneh- lines, as well as at football or basketball games and pep rallies. It is even found in the name of our yearbook since Orenda means Great Spirit. It stays with a student wherever he goes, long after graduation, and out into the college and business world. It is similar to an unspoken pledge of honor, loyalty, and trustworthiness, but still more broad and inclusive. Perhaps it is best exemplified in the words and meaningful theme of the Alma Mater. These phrases which fill us with pride and respeet embody all of this special quality which is unique here . . . Hail to Lamar .... A lma Mater dear . . . Sing her joyful praise . . . Sound it far and near . . . Rally around her banner . . . We will never fail . . . So to Lamar, Alma Mater . . . Sing hail . . . Hail . . . Hail! .9.

SUPERINTENDENT W. E. MORELAND We are very fortunate to have a superior Education Department, which supervises our school life so compentently and democratically. From the highest administrative posts on down, leaders may be found who are cooperative and thoroughly interested in their jobs and in us. At the downtown office, Mr. Moreland, our Superintendent, Mr. Webb, Assistant Superintendent, who is in charge of all high schools, and Mr. James Delmar, President of the Board of Education, are all hard at work, constantly planning and devoting valuable time and eI'l'ort to the entire educational department of the Houston Public School System. Under them, the department su- pervisors function. The division of responsibility makes it possible for these department heads to do a very thorough job. Each one is a capable expert in his Field and this makes for greater efficiency, more expert guidance, and more effective execution of plans and programs. Through these supervisors, we obtain much of our modern equipment, as well as our up-to-date curriculum and textual material. Through our Parent-Teacher Association and the Lamar Activities Club, we obtain many wonderful gifts. The Parent-Teacher Association is responsible for the long-needed fans in the cafeteria, the milk bar on the first floor, the lovely tea given each fall to honor our faculty, and of course, the Open House at which parents and teachers meet to cement the important relations between family and school. The Lamar Activities Club makes it possible for us to follow our football team to the games on trains and busses, and to enter speech tournaments over the state. Through their outstanding officers both of these organi- zations work to make Lamar better and better. MR. J. A. MCBRIDE Vice-President, Activities Club MRS. G. E. KNo1.1.12 President, P.-T. A. MRS.
