Dedication 1 Classes 18 Administration 50 Activities 62 Organizations 74 Sports 90 Advertisements 120 Closing 145 ‘DS'DJeAZJON .«S The 1982-83 edition of the Elixir is dedicated to Mrs. Jacadale Beasley, a long time member of the faculty at Lamar High School. Mrs. Beasley was graduated from Peace College in Raleigh, N.C. She has served as a classroom teacher of English and Literature at Lamar and Spaulding High Schools, during which she served as head of a teacher program project. Succeed. Over a course of years she has also served as Yearbook sponsor, Jr. Beta Club sponsor, is an avid sports fan and booster club supporter, Senior sponsor and also the school newspaper sponsor which she presently holds. As members of the Elixir staff we feel Mrs. Beasley is well deserving of this award because of her many deeds of kindness and helpfulness she has demonstrated to us. Through all of this she has become more than just a teacher; she has grown to be a true friend. We will always be thankful for her support and guidance. For this the 1982-83 Elixir is dedicated to you, Mrs. Beasley, with much love and gratefulness. Dreams are the figures and images that occur deep in our subconscience, sometimes while sleeping and other times during the waking hours. Dreaming is a natural part of our everyday life and one that is familiar to both the young and old. Although everyone will not always share the same dreams, each one is just as important as the other. It is not unusual for people to establish their goals in life by the dreams they may have. Here at Lamar High we are continually striving for and witnessing daily dreams that are fast turning into reality. For many of us, the education that we will obtain while learning here will prove to be our magic wand in ... “Making Our Dreams Come True. ” 2 3 4 “Winning isn't everything” is a popular phrase that goes without mentioning, but to some winning is everything. All of us know the exalting feeling we get about ourselves and everyone involved when we have finally succeeded. The thrill and feeling of accomplishment is overwhelming inside and especially good for the soul. We can be proud of L.H.S. since our athletes have allowed us to share winning with them and also symbolized the school as a winner overall. They have made our dreams come true. 5 Such lavish dreams as owning a new car may take time, 6 7 but keep reaching for the stars! Graduation, the dream we have looked forward to since we entered first grade. The one dream we face with mixed emotions. We are happy to have made it through all the homework, tests, trips to the office, and our many extracurricular activities, but at the same time we are sorry to have to leave our Alma Mata behind. Sorry because we know it is time to be independent and leave our many cherished times behind in order to follow our dreams that will lead us into tomorrow. 9 Ah yes, that sweet dream of romance. It is the most common of all dreams since we all wish to be loved and cared for in that special way that being in love provides. Whether you are in love with the most beautiful person or the stoutest, you are experiencing one of the most healthy and important feelings that is needed in life. For some people at L.H.S. this dream has already come true, for others it is just beginning. 10 11 After graduation we dream of exciting jobs that pay good money. This is the time when we begin to be thankful for our education and guidance we received in our years at high school. We realize for the first time that we are our own out in the real world where life is not as simple as we expected it to be, but a very complicated source of activity. What we wouldn’t give to once again be a student of Lamar High. 12 13 14 Of course there will always be some dreams that just aren’t meant to be or some that take longer than others to come true, but never let this discourage anyone from dreaming. For what then is the need to be young and free unless we dream and set goals that we hope to accomplish later in our lives. Always strive and continue to make your dreams come true. is Angela Coe Charlotte Coe Timmy Bose man 7 James Cooper Best All Around: Brigitte Davis and Evander Gerald Brigitte Davis Ellen Dority This is especially true of the Annual Staff. All members of the staff have provided ideas, suggestions and talents in many fields. After all, every member of the staff has given liberally of his time and energy. Without the contributions of each one this publication could never have reached the printers. The staff began its work in May of last year. All through the summer they labored diligently. During early portions of the school year they suffered through picture taking to produce a pictorial and written account of the crowning achievement of Lamar High. But as we remember the good times that were spent, we will also remember the dreams that we had. Dreams that were only wild and far-fetched or the dreams that were meaningful and real. •£ T 147 As a child our dreams were mostly of fairy tales ... or maybe of being a cowboy or ballerina when we grew up. But now that we’ve grown older and become students of Lamar High School, our dreams have become more rich and complex and much harder to grasp. Even though our dreams have become more difficult to obtain, we’ll always keep dreaming. And as we continue to dream and develop into keen young adults, we’ll look back upon this school year and remember the joys, sorrows, accomplishments and disappointments that were all a part of our continual struggle in “Making Our Dreams Come True! 148 KSMSMKSK Remember the childhood dreams we had? What we wanted And what we needed Was so easily obtained. Wild horses We dreamed of catching. Torrential tears That lift us red-eyed and tired, Only to be replaced in the next minute With an energy more vibrant than before. All the unexplored places We were going to discover. Freedom would reign Wherever we would go. Time was endless. The moment was now. Remember the childhood dreams we had? 151 HAVE OUR DREAMS eOMS Once again spring has rolled around and summer vacation is just around the corner. The halls will be remorsefully quiet, although they will be holding many precious moments that have taken place within them during the 1982-83 school year. For many of us, we have made our dreams come true, therefore closing a memorable chapter of our lives. However, many will return to the all familiar Alma Mater in the fall of the year to once again strive to make their dreams come true. Now is the time to be proud of our many accomplishments here at Lamar High School, the school we love dearly. The 1982-83 Elixer Staff has worked hard during the year to capture your dearest moments and print them in a memory book that will last you a lifetime. I would like to give a very special thanks to everyone involved in the construction, advising, and production of the yearbook. I would also like to add that this was the first year that Lamar High has had their own dark room for developing and printing their own pictures. It was a new experience for the entire staff, but thanks to our photographers working many hours in the dark room the pictures are becoming better and better. Without the help and cooperation of everyone, the yearbook could not be a success and only by working together can we make our dreams come true. Sincerely, Stacia E. Hudson Editor-in-Chief
