But almost everybody at L.H.S. is involved in something, some way. There's hardly a person here that can't find something to do in his own special way. Each and every one of us, in some way or another, if we try, can find a place to be ourselves here at L.H.S. EACH PERSON FINDS L.H.S To some it ’s fust a place. A DIFFERENT PLACE, a place to team. while others find it a place to help-out in the office. Some people find L.H.S. a place to teach what they've already learned. Others find it a place to work in the lunchroom, for a teacher, for a unit. SAFETY or just for the heck of it. Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and have wrinkles. What do we live for if not to make the world a less difficult place for each other? And some people find L.H.S. a 13 A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. Saverance ably led the Lamar Area Schools through another successful year. We are proud of our administrators and the progress made by our schools. Mr. Saverance is a graduate of Clemson University with a B.S. in Vocational Agricultural Education. He earned his masters in School Administration at the University of South Carolina. Social Worker. In his third year as the head of our Student Body, Mr. Copeland, not only manages our school efficiently, but with sincere interest in the students’ achievements. Our activities are carried on with his support and enthusiasm. Mr. Copeland believes that our school is a reflection of us as students and human beings. We, as students, wish to make Lamar High School the best school and to become people who will be worthy leaders of the future. Mr. Copeland is a graduate of Furman University with a B.A in English. He earned his Masters in Education at the University of South Carolina. A newcomer as Assistant Principal and varsity basketball coach, Mr. Poole has been with us for the past five years. He is a graduate of Pfeiffer College with a B.S. in Physical Education. Secretary—Mrs. Patsy Lowery 33 Language Department Mary Butler—French English Jac-Adele Beasley—English Peggy Quarles—English The Language Department at LHS consists of three English teachers and one French teacher. These courses help prepare many students for college. Even those students who do not plan to enter college will be helped by these courses in the future. 34 Dorothy Campbell—History and Drivers Education William McDonald History Department Perry Bell—Social Studies The History Department of LHS helps enrich many of the students’ lives. Through these courses, the students learn many facts about democracy and other forms of government. Many interesting facts are learned about America and other nations around the world. 35 Science Department The Science Department provides the students with an organized course of study in grades 7-12. Life Science is taught in the seventh grade. Earth Science in the eighth grade, and Physical Science in the ninth grade; Chemistry and Physics are taught on the eleventh and twelfth grade levels. One of the major objectives of the department is to develop scientifically literate citizens through an understanding of the methods of science and the role of science in society and everyday living. The Department strives to help each student understand the mathematical principles which will be useful in solving problems throughout life. 37 Mrs. Jane Waitt Business World L.H.S. is proud of their Business Department. The students are trained for secretarial work and personal uses. These students receive a very good start in the adult business world. A smiling, well-pleased future secretary. Many students begin their adult careers in this department. These instructors aid students in various activities and projects. Mrs. Beasley has given assistance to many students at LHS. Mr. Bouknight has worked closely with Project Succeed. Mrs. Vicie McDowell 41 Project Succeed Last year, 1971-1972, a vocational program called Project Succeed, was tarted in Lamar High School. A student begins this course in Grade 9 and in our years upon successful completion of Grade 12 will receive a South Carolina ligh school diploma. During the four years, he will be taught a skill that can be osed in the job-world. We have a hundred students taking part in this program. Coaches McDonald and Bloom trained the team well both mentally and physically. Lamar High thinks that they are two of the best coaches around. Blathers leads the cheering!! Homecoming 1972-73 This year the Lamar High School Student Council decided to have a homecoming court rather than having a single queen. Each senior football player crowned the girl of his choice. Although the homecoming court was new and different, we had an unusually beautiful court and most of the students were happy with the change. With most of this year’s team returning, the future of basketball at Lamar High looks very bright.
