She is an active member of the Block L Club, a Senior Superlative, and a varsity basketball player. Denise is a girl who gives a friendly smile to everyone she meets. Miss DAR — Kathy Jordan MARSHALS ’69-70 Rick Beasley, Sandy Brown, Mauree Scarborough, Faye Privette, Kathy Jordan —Chief Marshal, Debbie Powers, Becky Oates, Sharon Gowdy, and Roggie Melton. These MARSHALS are nine students from the 1968-69 junior class who have the highest averages. The student who has the highest average is the Chief Marshal. They serve as marshals for the three nights of commencement exercises. 16 MAUREE SCARBOROUGH MISS LAMAR HIGH Mauree is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Scarborough. She is an active member of the chorus and a Senior Superlative. Mauree is an excellent pianist along with her many other talents. L A M A R A T H L E T I D C I R E C T 0 R Jimmy Newsom Mr. Newsom and his wife moved to Lamar in 1960. His home is Thomasville, N. C. They have two daughters, Robin and Denise, who are attending Lamar Elem. School. He attended Wingate College and then went to Appalachian and is now working on his M.A. Degree at East Tennessee. He was selected North-South All-Star basketball coach of the year, 1968-69. Besides being basketball coach, he is also assistant football coach, and elementary principal.
