ALMA MATER OF LAMAR HIGH In the State of South Carolina Is the School we love Hail to thee our Alma Mater Guided from above. To prepare us for life's battle, May we never fail. Mold our minds and hearts for service Lamar High School, All Hail! Honor, courage, faith and duty Are our watch words true As we work and play together As we study, too . Loyal to thee, we will love thee Let our colors sail. Black and grey will reign triumphant Lamar High School, All Hail! THE ELIXIR 1969 Published By The Annual Staff Of Lamar High School Lamar, South Carolina Volume XX Table Of Contents MEMORIAM 4 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY 17 CLASSES............. 27 ATHLETICS 53 HONORS 75 ORGANIZATIONS 87 ELEMENTARY FACULTY AND CLASSES........ 107 ELEMENTARY CLUBS 129 ADVERTISEMENTS 133 IN LOVING MEMORY OF DEFEAT Defeat is when you hang your head, Not from the loss of a ball-game or, Election, or the running of a race. Defeat is when you cry out to the world and there is no reply, When faith in the future is gone, and the promise of a better life is less than dim. When you have been betrayed by those you love, and lost In a world of numbers, when emotions are all but numb It stings the soul worse than Death; In Death, there is Hope, but in defeat, there is none. COURTNEY ANNE BELL C. Anne Bell was in a class by herself. She was always willing to give her all to everything she took part in. Anne was an Honor Student, N.E.D.T. Scholar, held membership in several school clubs, and was an outstanding member of the Varsity Basketball team. She was honored during her sophomore year by being chosen to the All-Conference team. Anne's memory will always linger with those who knew her. Her favorite expression Let's go to the lake , reflects her love of life. An unfaltering religious faith was obvious to even strangers. Anne was truly one of God's Children! 4 5 12 14 ADMINISTRATION Mr. Cliff Saverance--Superintendent, Lamar Area Schools 18 Mrs. Nettie Fountain--Secretary Mr. David Manson--Lamar High School Principal Mrs. Marion Newsom--Secretary Mr. Harry Frampton--Federal Coordinator of Lamar Area Schools Mrs. Mary Sue Jordan--School Nurse ■ Mrs. Thelma Beasley--Guidance Counselor, English . The Club provides opportunities for boys and girls to help plan and carry out goals and programs based on their interests and needs. The 4-H youth of today is being trained to carry on what adults have started. In order to be successful all members need the cooperation and interest of adults in all of their many projects. The price of membership in 4-H clubs is that each member shall complete during the school term, one or more projects, keep a record of all work done, and turn in the record at the end of the year. In South Carolina the first Boys 4-H Club was organized in 1906. The Girls Club was organized in 1910. In America there are more than two million members. In Darlington County alone there are more than a thousand. The work of these clubs is guided throughout the United States and its territories jointly by the Cooperative Extension Service of the United States Department of Agriculture and the Land-grant colleges. 4-H is promoted by many business organizations including Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and Olin Chemical Company. One of the ultimate goals is to win the award of being an I F Y E Student with all expenses paid for a six months visit to a foreign country on an exchange basis. More than 45 other nations now have 4-H Clubs patterned after ours in the United States. The work of the 4-H Club is certainly a program of activity, adventure, and achievement. 130 C. Lloyd, D.
