Each carrying our heads high, our smiles bright, and new notebooks under our arms. As the weeks and months pass so do the times of victory, defeat, heartache, happiness, fear, boldness, and maybe even loneliness. And with each of these experiences, everyone of us grows up just a little. We learn to discipline ourselves, to accept responsibility, to carry out instruction, and perhaps best of all—we learn to make memories. Yes, our first memories are made of this—our first real encounter with knowledge, independence, adulthood, and life. May this 1963 Elixir help you and us never to forget what memories were made of at LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL. 6 7fe C f offence . . . () ( (fucaiion . . . Administration Faculty Of JOrticipalion . . . RUTH BELL The annual staff unamiously agreed this year that the 1963 Elixir should be dedicated to Mrs. Ruth Bell. Serving as director of the Choral Department for years, Mrs. Bell has developed many young talents and brought numerous honors to Lamar High School through her efforts in this field. She is remembered by all students as the smiling lady with laughing eyes, a lovely voice, and eminent patience. The student bodynot only respects her as a noble teacher, but loves her as a friend. She has taught us how to appreciate and cultivate one of the finest things in life—the art of music. She has taught us too, through her radiant personality how to live with a song in our hearts. We respectfully dedicate this annual to Mrs. Bell, because she loves and is loved by Lamar High School. (Jar J)oarcfof Cj due at ion fPfans Ylfieacf Albert L. Flowers, Jr. Darlington, P. L. The many hectic problems of keeping a school functioning properly are solved by many hours of working and planning. The Administration of Lamar High School works day and night to handle these problems so that our school may be a well-organized institution. This is not an easy task and it requires the cooperation of our Board of Education, our Superintendent, Mr. D. K. Brasington, and our principals Mr. W. E. McIntosh and Mr. William DeWeese. Our Superintendent teaches also and is capable of substituting for any teacher, from football coach to band director, when he is needed. His wife is librarian of the high school and elementary libraries. They have been of much service to our school for many years. We appreciate the Administration of our school. A tragic accident took his life August 28, 1962. The Lamar Student Body regrets that Randy is not with us anymore. With reverence and respect we dedicate this page to his memory with the hope that his family and friends will be comforted in knowing that Randy may be gone, but not forgotten. 87 7n (JlCemory We greatly miss the presence of our dear friend and classmate, Larry Plummer. We don't understand why he was taken so suddenly, but we know it wasn't for us to question why. We just try to accept this tragic experience and to put our faith on someone higher and one who knows best.
