Portrayed within these pages are many of the trials and triumphs, joys and disappointments that we of Lamar High School have shared this year. We the Elixir Staff dedicate our efforts to faithfully recording the year as time has presented it to us. FOREWORD 4 DEDICATION Because of her many years of service as a teacher and friend of young people and her loyal devotion to duty, we want to honor Miss Agnes Flowers. By example and precept she has always stood for the right, endeavoring to lead students to a better life. BETTY McCUTCHEN TREASURER..........JACKIE ODOM Denise Norris Eddie Fields SENIORS We, the most energetic and mischievous of all students, entered the FRESHMAN CLASS of Lamar High School in September, 1954 with Mrs. Connor and Mr. Jeffords as our home room sponsors. The Christmas party highlighted our social calender. When we entered the SOPHOMORE CLASS we had acquired dignity and wisdom beyond our dreams. We realized by now how wonderful high school was and how many things we had to look forward to. Mrs. Whitaker and Mr. Ray were our home room sponsors. 12 Eldridge Alexander Myrtis Amerson Shirley Best Verle Blackwell Dalton Brasington Anne Casper Buck Carter Billy Childers Bobby Childers Frank Cole Preston Cole Billy Copeland Charles Davis Roxie Elliott Dorothy Freeman Brenda Galloway Gary Gardner Clarence Gainey Barbara Grooms Jeanette Grooms Carolyn Hendricks Marian Hendricks Patsy Hodge Kenneth Jefferson SENIORS Nancy Jones Mary Ann Jordon Our JUNIOR YEAR found us entering into the realm of the financial world. We had to make money for the Junior-Senior Prom. Our first project was the Halloween Carnival. In December we presented a play The Groom Said No. Later a bar-b-que supper brought us good returns. Just after Christmas we received our class rings. In May after much work the big event happened and the Junior-Senior Prom was quite a success. Our theme was Oriental Gardens. Our Junior year's work ended with the concession stand. All in all we felt that we had been a financial success this year. Our sponsors were Mr. McMillan and Mrs. DuBose. 14 Emmett Lee Lowary Doris McMillian Betty McCutchen Julian McCoy JoAnn Nichols Edward Norris Jackie Odom Sue Raines Marie Register Otis Register Jerry Sansbury George Edward Sheron Frances Spears Ronald Stephens Carolyn Stewart Buddy Stewart Dallas Stewart Beverly Ann Watford SENIORS SENIORS ! ! ! We have reached our goal at last. With the help of our sponsors, Miss Smith and Mrs. Joye, this has been one of the best years of all. We had many projects to raise money for the senior trip. The privilege of a senior room, granted to seniors for the first time brought some study and much pleasure. The most important events of the year and our high school career were our commencement and the senior trip which we will never forget. With a feeling of sadness and joy we left our high school days behind looking forward to the future with high hopes. Thus ended the history of the Senior Class of 1958. 16 What are the boys trying to prove? We started off the season with a 12 to 0 victory over Pamplico. The next game also ended in victory for us with a 13 to 0 win over Hillcrest. Our luck didn't hold and we lost to our old rival, Timmonsville, 13 to 0. The next week we journeyed to Latta where the game ended in a 0 to 0 tie. The following week the home fans saw defeat when Lake View beat us, 13 to 0. On successive Friday nights Lamar met defeat from East Clarendon, 20 to 13, and St Mathews, 35 to 6. Our final two games ended in victory for Lamar with the scores of 12 to 0 over Maywood and 20 to 13 over McColl. This was really a fighting season for the Silver Foxes.
