Hlass J-lzstory HEADLINES News Flash September 1913 Lamar School Opens Today' A group of shy hid-e boys and girls with bright eyes and expectant hearts hurried to school this autumn mornxng to begin the twelve year struggle with readxn , ritm and,r1thmet1c' So we began Most of us following Mxss Estes everywhere she went even to Mr Boyd s office' When we had completed that year and had spent a year each with Miss Josey Mlss Gilliam Mrs Wilson Mrs Yarborough and Miss Griffin and two years with Mrs Dark we had learned to be self reliant We were now able to take the count in our battles with such major opponents as assignments chapel programs and even examinations Came the-Fail of'l950 As-a crowning reward for seven years of good work we were tak-en over to the high school buildang where Mr Moore was given the privilege of being our home room teacher We Wea even promotahlxdfa study halls' The confus1on of the crowded halls made us think of Grand Central Statxon but we soon learned to take a deep breath cross our fxngers and make a dash for our des tlnation Fall 1951 School Reopens' We were full fledged high school people at last with Mrs Connor our home room teacher Even tho we were rats we began to make our presence felt and to take part in the various activities of the hlgh school Lamar School Opens 1952 Session We had now become expert writers math ematzcians and scxentists We had the science room for our home room and Mr McMillan for our sponsor gan our Junior year there divided into two groups under the leadership of Miss Rasheed and Mr Moore In December we placed our class zfmgs on our fingers We made headlines by our work on the Spectator and Elixir our talent show and our beauty contest at wh1ch a member of our class was chosen Queen A too soon it was May Juniors slipped in and out of the gym looking mysterious Then on that most gala of nights Jumor Senior Banquet the guests were ushered into a Hawanan dining room where a never to be forgotten feast was celebrated September 1954 Senior Class Plans Great Year' We paraded down the halls dignified' 'P Seniors' That long dreamed of goal was ours' We were delighted to be received into the home rooms of Mrs Dark and Mrs Joye Members of our class took the leading positions on the Spectator staff the Elixir staff and the Stu dent Council Mr Brasmgton came to be our new Supermtendent this year and Mr Byrd our new przncipal April l955' Flash' Flash' Flash' We have been to Washington We have presented our class play and have made our last bow in dramatlcs' ,The Jumors have entertained us beautifully at our last Junior Sen1or', May 1955' ,Too quickly much too quickly our final exams were upon us but we stood them and pulled through June l955' The class held its commencement exercises at Lamar H1ghSchool Auditorium YO . .
