Hlass 1-lzstary Ift1me could be turnedback four years we would see ourselves entermg the nlnth grade 1n the old Lamar I-hgh School buxldmg We were no dlfferent from other fresh men Though forty strong we were t1m1d and fr1ghtened A new l1fe was beglnnrng for us We d1dn't want to m1ss any of lt and yet we were afraxd of It Our klnd and sympathet1c home room teacher Mrs Sh1elds Connor headed us 1Dt0 our room and we became members of Lamar Hxgh School We lost from our group th1s year Dorothy Watford R1chard Dorxty and Rlchard Amerson As Sophomores we were proud yes we saw all and knew all' Of course our teachers soon proved to us that Sophomores were not so smart that school act1v1t1es and subjects should be neglected Mr Claude McM1llan was our home room teacher th1s year Wrth h1s personal mterest m us foremost, Mr 'Mac orgamzed our class mto a sober wrser group We shrank agaln 1n members, for Roy Bu1e, James Fox Alxce Hudson F L Hudson Mary Ann Knotts and LOIS Slupper left our class By the t1me we became Junlors we had grown fond of our school L1fe was better r1cher fuller now we were 'Jolly Junzors ' We ordered our class rmgs we excrtedly planned our Halloween Carn1val and from event made nearly S200 dollars Mrs Dark our sponsor helped us plan our May Day Program The Junxor Class portrayed the month of Apr1l by presentxng anApr1l Showers scene The h1gh hght of our Junlor year was the Jurnor Senror Banquet The settmg for th1s occas1on was a gypsy one We decorated the gym' w1th forest scenes a moon and glxtterlng stars Our tables were 1n tune w1th the gypsy gxrls that served our guests and performed gypsy dances The new h1gh school was f1n1shed 1nt1me for us to enter lt 1n September We were proud to be the fxrst graduat1ng class from our new modern bu1ld1ng Our Senlor sponsor was Mrs Edmee Boyd the school l1brar1an Though we lost Ruby B Amer son Emmxe Amerson V1ven Reynolds, Betty Jean W1ll1ams and Jahalxa Herrm we were fortunate 1n gammg Faye Gray Frankl1n Stephens Jerry Kea Jennmgs Lloyd and Belva Beasley as members of our class Th1s gave us twenty elght 1n number to graduate 1n May Our year was a hard but mterestrng one and we accomphshed many de s1red goals The hlgh l1ghts of our school year totaled football games Home Commg a Chnstmas Parade, many chapel programs, basketball games and tournaments, a Chr1stmas Party, amoney makmg supper our class play the Junxor Senlor Recepuon our tr1p to Washxngton and f1nally graduatlon We look back over a full but happy year a year that we wxll carry w1th us for many years a 1 . - . 1 ' . 1 ' 1 - 1 1 1 ' , -- , . . . . . . .
