Mr, Myers was always on duty early in the morning to be sure the building was warm. Mr. Rowe stayed until late at night so that we could use the building for our many activities. Another man who helped us was Mr. Ivory Willians. Among his many duties was the care and maintainance of the football stadium and field. It takes many people to keep things moving and these three men did their best for us. xx . A .1 Ground breaking ceremonies for the new high school were held April 4. Attending were members of the board of education, school officials, head boy and girl and members of the sophomore class who will be the first graduates from the new build- ing. Three hundred seventy-five annuals were issued in record time. First we could get no further than the front steps. Then the parking lot and daylight savings time combined to give us three hours at the annual sign ing party. By dark our hands were so tired from writing we were ready to quit for awhile. Those who kept on signing in the dark were rather sur- prised at what they found in their books later. We go through this same ritual each fall but we wouldn t miss it for the world. Q , The usual congregation of students in the nar- rowest spot in the hall began the very first day and continued throughout the year. One hundred thirty seniors, one hundred sixty- three juniors and one hundred ninety-nine sopho- mores brought the total enrollment up to four hundred ninety-two. Student Council representatives were chosen and the new officers came into power. The main concern at the time was making plans for Homecoming which went over well with its fall theme, Mocassin Trails. Savage seats and book covers were sold as money making projects. Six of our members were able to attend the District Association of Student Councils and the Student Council Con- ference. The league meeting this year was held at Rocky Ford with ten of our members present. At Christmas time we crowned Lynn Brown, Miss Merry Christmas, sang carols around the Christmas tree downtown and then went our separate ways for the holidays. After the holidays a student questionnaire helped us get back into the routine of things. We had a Teacher Appreciation Day and elected Dan O'Conne1l as Mr. Irresistible, for Valen- tines Day. Scott Peterson was in charge of the very successful Powder Puff basketball game held with the student council members versus the faculty. The officials must have been bribed for the teachers were victorious. Rocky Ford participated in our annual Exchange Day. After we sent our representatives to the Meloneers camp, they visited us and sat in on one of our student council meetings. Activities toward the end of the year included painting the Savage Spirit sign, holding student body elections, and organizing a twirp week with a dance and a talent show. The all-school picnic on the 19th of May ended the Student Council year. 77 1:1 QL 19- i NESS ,T V f 1 'Q ' ' ' --'X y '4 ' ', Q , N Q snv Lf c umnm T ,1. , s e 8 .X 55: qv 'ft 1 A mtlungv g g Printed by The Lamar-Tri-State Daily News Published periodically throughout the school year by theCLamar High School Journalism Class and entered as second class matter at the Post Office at Lamar, Colorado, under Act of Congress, March 5, 1887.
